Rosewill vs Leopold.
« on: Tue, 27 December 2011, 09:12:17 »
I have made the decision to get one of the following and want to know the GH thoughts on them.

Rosewill with browns or reds

Leopold with browns or reds

I don't mind full size or tenkeyless (That is not a decision factor.)

I have 2 Filco boards right now and I am very happy with them, but the boards are expensive and I want to try an reduce the cost of the new board if possible.

I know Rosewill are made by costar and even the control board is marked filco, so I know the quality of the board.

How do the Leopold boards compare. I have heard mixed reviews of them on the forms here and can't determine if I should take the leap to try one.

I will be able to get either of these boards for the same price, about 115 shipped. So I would prefer to make the purchase based on quality.

Are there any differences between these boards that can be pointed out?

If price factor is being factored out, over 90% of ppl in GeekHack will sure ask you go for Rosewill as its quality is more assured.

Leopold's built quality is also quite superb from what I being heard so far. The major downside/risk are the stiff stabilisers and some random problems on controller.

p/s: If by any means you are looking for higher KRO(over 6) over USB, Leopold are for you then.

It is my understanding that the Rosewill is the same as the original majetouch.

Is this correct or is it the same as the majetouch 2? The boards I currently have are Majetouch2 and I like them a lot. But not really sure of the differences between the 2.

Letting a logo design make your decision in which board to buy is pretty vain.

Not really, at least at GH.

I have no problems with the Rosewill logo. Looks fine to me, if it a bit big. I do love the red board behind the keys though. Brings everything together nicely.

Yes the Rosewill is a clone of the original majetouch.  Is there anyway to get rid of that fugly Rosewill logo?

Both boards are good, so don't over-think it. Just pick the best deal you can find.

The LEDs are a little dimmed on the new one but thats all she wrote.  Heres a post from "opsy" that summarizes the differences:

Except for external appearance stuff and the detachable cables, it's identical to a Filco. The only differences I've found from my previous tenkeyless mj2 are:

1. Detachable mini USB to USB cable and mini usb to PS/2 cable. (point rosewill)
2. Logo(half a point Filco)
3. Painted plate (wash)
4. Raised legends on the key caps (thicker infill?) (wash, both are thin flimsy junk caps, but if it IS infill on the Rosewill, it will likely be a bit tougher than Filco's trash keycaps)
5. No rubber "condoms" on the fold-out feet. (point Filco)
*6. Numpad present.
*7. MX blues

You mean Leopold vs Filco Gen 2.

That was good info to know, but I was trying to find out the difference between my majestouch2 and the majestouch to determine if I loose anything going with the rosewill over the leopold, or saying screw it and buy the majestouch2 ninja with browns for more money and call it a day.

Majestouch Gen1/Gen2 and the Rosewill Gen1/Gen2 are two separate keyboards.  Same OEM does not mean same keyboard.

For example iPads are made by many OEMs which make other tablets.

It is true that oems build many products to different specs in the same facility.

But the Rosewill boards actually say filco on the controller pcb, and the pcb of the keyboard.  There is definitely a closer link than say a Samsung and Sony 40" LCD tv. (same glass, different processing)

Maybe they built more boards than filco was willing to buy?

Just buy the Ninja.  You won't get any street cred with a Rosewill.

Although I DID just learn a different way to cover up that fugly logo from my buddies at OCN!

I don't get it.

You can always paint the board and hope for the best.

Being a geek means that you don't give a flying f*** about street cred. In fact you get more street cred for blowing off the street cred then you lose for the Rosewill.

You sure go off topic a lot.

Did I mention the "Leopold wait" idea?

No you did not, but I read it yesterday in another post by you. I am thinking of waiting till Feb to buy the board now to see if they do release a new model.

Not stated(but normal USB mouse is 250Hz) but who really care? Like you can type faster than it, or even notice it?

Or if you are still skeptical bout it, better use PS/2 connection, no polling involved.

You are speaking to a forum where many of the members spend 100$+ on new colored key caps to replace the perfectly good key caps that are on their potentially overpriced keyboard.

Vanity is practically required here.
