Soldering is Easy!
« on: Wed, 01 February 2012, 15:25:38 »
I saw a couple of posts recently of people talking about not being so confident in their ability to solder.

I figure this will be useful to some here who are considering trying it:  http://mightyohm.com/files/soldercomic/FullSolderComic_EN.pdf (direct link) or http://mightyohm.com/blog/2011/04/soldering-is-easy-comic-book/ (which has the comic in several other languages)

Truthfully, soldering is ridiculously easy, you just have to learn a tiny bit and have confidence in yourself.

That comic works for pretty much all keyboard applications. But try soldering tiny chips on a laptop. They're so tiny and takes a steady hand to do. Btw, where can I find a micro soldering iron?

That's where you need a Portalsol Piezo Pro, IMO.

I just got a sharp tip for my Weller soldering station.  That and some solder-wick and I have no problem with SMD's

And a steady hand if you're doing really really small pins.

I have tried and failed miserably in the past (terrible solder points/joints). Next time I solder, I will use this awesome comic. Thanks!

Great comic.

Thanks for posting it.
