Having trouble deciding on a keyboard. (MX blues)
« on: Thu, 08 March 2012, 03:53:03 »
I've put £100 aside to buy a new keyboard ($160, give or take) but I can't make up my mind, my main runners are the Das keyboard ultimate and the KBC poker however anything is on the table at this point.
I'm wanting to order before Monday so I've got a couple days to decide, I'm mainly looking for a great looking keyboard with MX blues, blank keys are bonus but not necessary and the layout is not an issue I can adapt, a compact design is fine too (like the KBC poker or HHKB).

I appreciate any suggestions or replies, thankyou very much!

Anything specific in mind? I should add, I'm very new to this, however most filcos I've seen so far don't look nearly as sophisticated as a KBC poker or the full-sized Das ultimate, but I may be viewing them at a shallow point of view.
And cheers!

Filco are the best made cherry keyboards IMO. Pokers are cheap crap.

Plenty of Ninja Filco's at The Keyboard Company for £100 too.

http://www.keyboardco.com/

They may not be the prettiest, but they're highly regarded as the most solid cherry keyboards, and for the money quality should be major concern.

Those filco ninjas do look quite good, quite similar to the KBC poker, although the cheapest is £130 with shipping which is a little over budget and unfortunately I can't afford to pay the extra.
What makes the KBC poker cheap? I don't doubt your information, I just want confirmation before I make a bad purchase, as the KBC Poker is still my first choice due to price/visuals.

Thanks again, very helpful so far.

So you aren't from England?

Perhaps look into the quickfire rapid?

It is a bit bizzare saying your amount in gbp when you don't live in the UK.

I do live in the UK yes, the cheapest Filco Ninja is £120, £10 shipping.
And the quickfire rapid, I'm not a massive fan of the keycaps (a little game oriented) unfortunately.

Oh I see, I really would like the blues for the full on mechanical experience (tactile with audible click clack) plus the £20 really is beyond my budget, I'll have £108 free of my next paycheck and I don't want to wait another two weeks, and borrow money is never fun, I'm still leaning towards the KBC poker but if it really is built badly then I will stay away, from the small amount of reviews I've seen it doesn't look badly built at all though.

It is the worst built board I have had. The selection that is from is kbc poker, cherry 11800, compaq 11900, unicomp spacesaver, model M, filco blue full size, kinesis, hhkb pro 2, hhkb type s, dell at 102 and various pos keyboards.
EDIT: And a 86u realforce for 48hrs before sending it back.

Have you had any time with the KBT Race 75%? It's similar to the poker with a slightly different layout, green backlit keys and cherry reds rather than blues, but it still has the desirable aesthetic I'm after (an almost HHKB look to it).
