Noppoo mini for Mac
« on: Sat, 17 March 2012, 11:57:15 »
I dunno if it is a right place for this post.

I love Noppoo mini very much and I am also a Mac user. However the Noppoo mini only works on Windows. So I only can use it in my Office Windows computer but not in my home's Macbook. Because I have some connection with the Noppoo, I have asked Noppoo manufactory if I can special order the Mac version Noppoo mini. I get the positive answer but there is a minimal quantity requirement for the special order. I would like to know if any people here also have interest in the Mac version Noppoo mini?

What you need is an USB to ps2 adapter and a ps2 to USB adapter so you can adapt your USB on the Noppoo mini to a ps2 so it can adapt to the ps2 to usb adapter so it can adapt to the USB port on your MAC and work on it.

The Choc Mini sacrifices Mac support to achieve 11KRO (basically NKRO). The thing is that if they make a Mac compatible version you will only get NKRO in PS/2 mode which the macbook has no port for. So, unless you really need those media keys, just get the standard version, you will still be able to type.

Is the Mini really just 11KRO? If you turn my TANK upside down and push, you can get all of the keys to register simultaneously.

But why would you want to do that? You only have 10 fingers so its practically NKRO
(unless you have lots of fun turning your keyboard upside down and pressing on it)

My point was that it has nothing to do with the firmware Noppoo is using. Personally i dont understand why they did that, I'm sure there are more MAC users than people who need more than the 6KRO normally supported by USB.

Why? Because you can. :p

Mainly though, I was asking because the TANK is also a Noppoo, and it'd be odd/interesting if they were using different technology.

I'm not familiar with the tank, does it have NKRO in usb mode, if it doesnt, the "issue" with mac compatibility in the choc mini is a hardware one.

Yes, the NKRO is in USB mode. I haven't tried it out with a USB->PS/2 adapter yet (and don't really see any reason to do so). Haven't tested it with a Mac, though, as I haven't had one around since my MacBook Pro died.

I believe the KBT Race has a very similar layout to the noppoo and should be mac compatible. It might be a good alternative if you can stand the backlighting (and the +20% price difference)

There was a hack of some KEXT's on Mac to make it work. One problem with the USB to PS2 to USB is that you only end up with 2KRO (Unless you have a soarer/teensy)
