So been on a mission to sort my MTG collection, and catalog it.
Curious, any other MTG players out there?

Also if you quit and have cards to get rid of, PM!
Always looking to buy older stuff.

I think this is ~1/3rd of the collection, less binders.
Still trying to find it all between the moves. >.<

I used to play quite a bit before giving it up for good in 2010.  Was one of the top players in my local area, and state-wide in the top 50 or so.  The majority of my stuff ranges from Invasion through Zendikar.  Have a lot of shocklands and fetchlands, the majority of them in complete playsets.  Autographed cards and pro player cards too from PT Honolulu '06 (greatest topdeck of all time!) in the collection.  Got sigs from HOFs Levy, Fujita, both Ruel brothers, Cornelissen, Nassif, Nakamura, and Jonsson.  Also have a full playset of Bayou (B/G dual land) which I heard can buy me a new keyboard. :)

Been selling a lot of my stuff to friends on my Twitter timeline; been working great so far!    Don't want to go the eBay route as I'm getting gouged pretty heavily there.  Would love to sell them away from there if possible.

If you're looking for anything particular, feel free to PM me.

Have fun!

I got into it around 2009 and have played it on and off since. Zendikar was great, not a big fan of the recent expansions.

I haven't been thrilled since mirrodin and the reformat.
Been playing since '95 very mildly, heavy into it in 2000 and off on since then.

No P9 here but I have seen an entire set in person. Considered buying a Lotus just to have it but decided that spending that much on a piece of paper wasn't going to be worth it to me.

Well time to build some proper tourny ready standard decks.

Any thoughts or input on what is working and what is not?

I use to play a lot until type 2 (standard) became popular and everyone started to play that. I prefer to be able to use all my cards rather than keep spending money on things that keep rotating out. Since I don't have any power nine and didn't intend to get any, legacy was the format for me. I'm about to trade all my good stuff to Awry which includes a lot of dual lands, fetchlands, shock lands and things like Force of Will and Lion's Eye Diamond. On his side he'll be trading some Realforces and an IBM Model M SSK.

I thought that alpha cards weren't tournament legal because they have rounded corners (more so than usual)? Not sure if you play competitively or just for fun though with your older stuff. The only alpha cards I have are basic lands and a Phantasmal Forces (****ty card!) signed by Richard Garfield and Mark Poole.

Oh man I need FoW :P
Yeah you need to run them in cases otherwise they are considered "marked".

Most my legacy decks I run are just for fun though a few of them I could go play competitive with, however no one runs those tournys very often.
I'm just trying to start to get into standard, as I want to see if I can maybe make the PT next year.

Also have a full playset of Bayou (B/G dual land) which I heard can buy me a new keyboard. :)

Ah ah you tell me... I have about thirthy original dual-lands and they're all "FBB" (Foreign Black Border), including a full set of four black-bordered "Underground Sea".  So they look like the beta ones and are worth quite some bucks (about $200 for each individual FBB Underground Sea).  I think these thirty FBB dual-lands alone are worth around $3K, give or take some (the Underground Sea are the most expensive, but the others are worth quite some money, especially when they have black borders).  I was either opening boosters/starter packs and getting these FBBs or trading them or buying them for $5 a piece.

I also have quite some real niceties like Bazaar of Baghdad (which I paid $10 a piece), a real Legends "The Tabernacle At Pendrell Vale", a full set of force of will, a few misprints, a few signed cards.  A sh*tload of cards now worth $20 a pop etc.

But no P9s for me...  I started playing in 1994 IIRC and back when we were playing with friends some were playing with P9's without sleeves !  It was just normal to see first turn mox + dark ritual or black lotus + Juzam Djinn and then timewalks, ancestral recall etc. ; )  We were playing the forbidden cards anyway (like Chaos Orb).   Library of Alexandria was everywhere.   Ah the trip down memory-lane ; )

My friends invested much more than me, they were buying moxes for $100 a piece and lots of people were calling them crazy.  They later sold them all for the price they paid them.  Now it's what, $1000 for a mox?

Maybe I *should* sell the whole lot and buy physical gold and then buy back cards once the economy shall crash or after the Mayan calendar switch to the next cycle but whatever: I like my cards and it's not about the money.

Now regarding P9s I've read in the past here on GH about some GHers owning some of the P9s...

Nice alpha Sol Ring OP btw ; )

Well if you or anyone else reading this would like to sell, hit me up first.

Started playing around 2004/2005..

Don't play as much as I used to, but we do a boosterdraft with friends roughly once a month. Also play Mtgo occasionally :)

Have collected quite some cards over the years.. but no P9 or something. Guess my most expensive cards are a set of Taiga's :)

Two years ago, got one of those deck builder packs as an into to the game.  First pack I opened had Jace the plainswalker in there.  Had no idea how much it was worth until a checked up.  Sold it on eBay for a bit.

Like playing from time to time on an evening with my lass, but like board games like settlers of catan better if I'm honest.

I got rid of all my mtg cards years ago, yea i know some p9's, end of the 90's stuff, when WoTC decided to rank players in 97 i was ranked 3rd in ny, i think i was 20 to 2, only 2 kids (or grown ups, who knows i was 17 at the time) in like ny state were ranked higher than me, but that's cuz they played like 3x the amount of ranked games i played.
and of course college came so had to junk my cards to my friends(we pooled all our mtg cards together)

went back to it in 2010, played the online version it was cool, you can buy a whole set of 4x uncommon and 4x commons for like 40bucks for the most recent 3 expansions. (to play type 2 or standard) Then that got boring, i either beat ppl too easily or got slaughtered cuz of decks made with tons of rares and those stupid avatars (i only liked to play with non rares, gives you a challenge).

Now when i visit my nephew, we'll play a few games from the premade decks he's got lying around.

Yeah when I saw that with Mox Diamond it blew my mind lol.

Boooo eastern peoples :P come to WestCoast and play.

Yeah the new rules and stuff really change game play, more so with the removal of the stack on the damage step.

Yeah, the game seems geared more towards younger people now. Which is fine if that's where you're making your money, but that does lose a lot of the older hardcore players and I feel the game itself requires less thought now.

But, nostalgia is always good.

I went ahead and made my Suicide black deck I normally played with in tourneys. Before they stopped Vintage in our area all together.
