Red Alert base set 170keys

Without a doubt these are the cleanest and nicest looking full key set that SP has ever managed to make.
I've decided though that I personally don't like the look of so much red on my keyboards, so my Ragnarock and Red Alert sets are all going bye bye

So this is the full Red Alert base set which is 170keys and a full list is here as items 1-4 (http://deskthority.net/marketplace-f11/rebel-red-alert-ended-prepare-for-left-over-sets-april-1-t860.html)
This does NOT include the little experimental set though as I didn't purchase that to begin with.

Here are 2 pictures of all the keys. I tried to split them out so that keys which had both a white and gray option are side-by-side for the most part.

As you can see from the pictures, these are in mint condition, maybe used 3 days at work so no shine/scuffs/whatever. Quite a few keys were never used at all as I had them on a 10keyless board. The MN guys who saw them at our meetup earlier this month can confirm they look brand new

If no acceptable trades are found, then these will go up on ebay and you can go crazy there. I really don't want to put them on ebay though after seeing the silly amount just a partial set went for over on deskthority.net

Shawn and I were joking last week about these selling for this much on ebay just based on how much the partial set sold for on DT.
I completely agree no one should pay that much cash for them, which is why i'm trying to only do trades. I'm not expecting the trades to be worth that much either. FYI shawn's proposed trade was for quite a bit less than that number, as its the proposed items themselves i'm interested in, not what value they may or may not have on the classifieds...

I have a couple interesting offers out there already, I need to respond to some PM's yet, and I haven't seen some people here which I thought would be.

This has been covered before, and I do believe you were there for that conversation, too. It wouldn't be cool to exactly copy someone else work.

Yeah, we can build our own sets with the same color scheme. I think its color scheme, red on pure white, is the most beautiful part.

Custom legends are expensive.

It's not a ton of extra legends.  Most of them are SP's standard WYSE font.  The bigger concern is copying the other forums.  It's kind of a **** move.

I can understand that but they would be different and everyone would know if you had an original set, it's not like this will affect the price or status of the original sets.

I don't get it. The Cream Cheese and Green set is sort of "copying the other forums", what's all the fuzz about red and white, which is an even more common colour scheme.

I can see many things wrong with copying the other forums stuff but mainly it's the relationship that we want to keep.  Right now, as you probably may have seen, KBD community is starting to let some of their custom keyboards (namely KMAC) trickle into the US market.  This is a good sign of trust and friendship and if we were to ruin that, by let say copy the Red Alert set, then you can just forget about any future collaborations (not to mention that the new KMAC mini, KMAC pad and the second revision of the KMAC is coming out soon).

Also that Diablo keycaps set (now called Sanctuary) is also another joint venture between members of Geekhack and KBD.  If we were to ruin the relationship by copying one of their keycap set just once, then I'm pretty sure they won't include us in any future designs or group buys.  Think long term instead of just short term. =)

It would definitely affect the price of the original sets, even if we made ours slightly different.  If we want to do a red-on-white/beige set I think that's fine.  But we should not copy their custom legends.  And if we want to do a red number row I think it would be polite to check with whoever ran the original RA buy and make sure they're cool with it.

This is a good point.  I'm not sure how old and how available the original is.  Tsangan does know people in the Korean keyboard community and frequents their forums, so my guess is he has a sense of what is cool and what sacrosanct.  Also he is just using SP's default legends.  The original looked significantly different.

It's not about sucking up to the Koreans, it's about demonstrating that we're not jerks.  The RA sets are a huge deal right now.  Everyone wants them.  Doing a knock-off set would be bad form IMO, without checking with them first at the very least.  And to be frank, they do a lot more cool stuff than us.  We want them to like us and include us and collaborate with us.  So maybe it is a little bit about sucking up.

I'm pretty sure it has been said before that the Cream&Green creator said yes and the Red Alert creator said no about a re-creation happening.  If GH had already done a RA clone which copied the custom legends, i'm sure what reaper said would already be true and that would be the end for GH getting access to any future cool things. I know personally if I had to choose between the opportunity to get a KMAC or a single set of any replica keycaps from SP, I know what I would choose...

Yes it does suck if you want a RA clone and it cannot happen, but in the long term respecting the creator's request will be better for the community.

Only a few people know this, but I was going to run a GB for those awesome and ultra rare bright green GHSS 4 keys. I had prices from SP, tentative color choices, and the order thread written up while waiting for permission from the creator to-do this. Ultimately the creator (didjamatic) asked me not to-do it, so I didn't and the idea quitely went away. Sure I could have gone through with it and made them anyways, but that would have been a ****head thing to-do considering all the good things didjamatic has done for the community in the past.

So as much as I want it, i'll never get a bright green GHSS keyset. But life goes on and thanks to the efforts of others within the community we are now getting access to all kinds of cooler things from Korea and elsewhere. Now if only the boat would hurry up and get those KMAC's over here to the US:)

Ok back on topic. I'm still taking offers and going to put this over on DT as well I think. Someone should offer a like new dolch set + CC Jack I think ;-)

While I think it's fair that we shouldn't copy their idea with the custom legends and some of the stuff they did (ideas/fonts), I do think it would be a little unfair if we just did a simple red on white kit and they got mad at us for it.

I would think that sort of set would be just fine seeing as its no different than the imsto dyesub's of the same sort of color with standard legends.
