So, I'm looking for a new keyboard.
« on: Mon, 28 May 2012, 13:18:08 »
Having the following is a must for me:
No excessive lighting (This is why I'm getting rid of my BlackWidow),
Mechanical switches (preferably Cherry MX blues),
Being able to use custom keycaps,
and most of all it has to be relatively 'simple' (No extra buttons and so on.)

Now, I've looked at a couple of keyboards so far:

Noppoo mini,
Happy hacking keyboard,
Steelseries 6GV2
And the Zowie celeritas.

Any ideas?

Already looked there. :l

I am from the UK, so US sites aren't going to be useful to me.

For simplicity a Filco from keyboardco., else consider buying from pchome and get a filco or a cm storm quick fire rapid (tenkeyless). Honestly those 2 have fewer issues. Sometimes my noppoo decides to act up it's not the worst thing and I could live with just a noppoo with browns quite happily apart from one game which has a lame mod doing anti cheat protection by only allowing one virtual keyboard...

Still tempted to get a Filco with browns despite having no money ^^...might have to get keycool lol. Keycools seem ok apart from the spacebar.

The Filco looks the best for me, I'll probably be getting that one. Although the CMSTORM looks good as well and I've seen that it's can be modded.

I know a few guys who have ordered from WASD and they were in the UK

But then again, they just ordered key caps, not a whole board

I will throw my vote in for the CM storm, the quickfire though, the new models look like crap to me.

Just checked at WASDkeyboards, and it's $50-$60 shipping to the UK (I just picked a postal code at random) for a keyboard.

OP, I would go with a CMstorm QF rapid from PChome or other. It's a really excellent keyboard, and their international shipping is really inexpensive last I checked.

Alright thanks, I'll take a look into that. I have to say the CMstorm rapid does look nice.

6gv2 doesnt take keycap-sets very well (unless you buy sets specifically made for steelseries but then your options are roughly five lol). Taking custom keycaps isnt an issue with any cherry switch unless you have a board with funky layout, and the steelseries enter key trumps most commonly available boards as far as funkyness is concerned.

Filco MJ2 TKL with browns all the way if you have the money, CM Storm QuickFire Rapid if you do not have the money nor ignorance for excessive branding!

Yeah, I saw the threads about the 6GV2. I won't be getting that.

I've actually search around keyboardco and I'm pretty sure I'm going for this one: http://www.keyboardco.com/keyboard_details.asp?PRODUCT=804

Although, saving money by buying the CMstorm will benefit me a lot.

I completely neglected the fact that you prefer blues! Don't take my word as far as switch type goes as I don't have experience with any other switch type!

It doesn't matter that much, I'd just rather have MX blues. It's not a priority.

Well if it means anything, I probably wouldn't use any other switch because of my love for browns :P
