rosewill cherry brown. backspace problem?
« on: Fri, 01 June 2012, 17:16:03 »
I just received my first mechanical keyboard; rosewill cherry bown.

So, far I am liking most of it.

However, the backspace key seems weird. It's not smooth to press like the other keys.
It almost feels "crunchy"

Pressing it feels weird, and then after pressing, it doesn't come up as fast as the other keys

Pop the cap off, press the switch a couple of times with a vacuum cleaner hovering over the switch as close as possible. Prolly just some dirt in there that needs to come out. If thats not it lube the stabilizer a bit.

How do i pop the cap off?

Normally I would just take a small screw driver and pry it off, but I want to make sure I don't damage this thing in case I need to return it.

Ok, I got the cap to come off, but the metal piece is still attached.
How do I remove that?

It isn't budging even with quite alot of force.

I remove the two below keys and was sort of able to move the backspace off the switch, but not remove the metal peice.

I think hit the switch a key times. it seems fine. It looks like the issue is with the metal peice.

feeling around, it seems that all the "big keys" other than the space bar, have this issue. It's just worse on the backspace.
Any thoughts?

What kind of metal pieces does it use, these;

If so you should be able to slide em out forwards (look closely at the picture) and give em a tiny little bit of lube (too much lube will just attract more dirt making your problems come back quicker and quicker)

Keycap cannot be removed from metal part..
and metal part is hard to remove from keyboard.

I'll see if I can find some lube and try it out.

You can, but you don't necessarily need to.

Having got the key off that far, you can lubricate the stabiliser then put the key back.

However if you do want to remove that key, get a flat-bladed screwdriver.  Put it underneath the key, against the stabiliser (if you're right-handed, the right side).  Push the screwdriver gently to the right, while you pull the keycap gently to the left.  The top of the stabiliser will unhook from the white plastic clip and you can remove the keycap.  Remember it shouldn't require much force, and that you're trying to stretch the stabiliser ever so slightly, not bend it.

Good suggestion. I was having the same issue with my filco. Basically I just needed to play with the stabilizers a bit before it felt right. I didnt use lube, just took the stabilizers off like in the video and then back on at different angles. Took me a little while before I got it right.
