Mine worked properly. I prefer the flexible adapters on a short "pig-tail" because the rigid ones seem to create too much leverage.

My only suggestions would be to verify that it is plugged in properly, or try another plug.

Try unplugging, switch to XT, back to AT, replug.  If that doesn't work try on another PC, if same result, try a different AT/PS2 to USB adapter, if that doesn't work, try another keyboard.

IIRC I had this issue once before, turned out it was something goofy like the keyboard driver for windows became corrupt or something. I would try a different KB and see if you get the same result, after that, focus solely on the board.

I saw something like this once. Might not be the same situation but IIRC it was a Gigabyte motherboard BIOS setting something like USB keyboard support in BIOS which is needed for some older OS like MS-DOS but typically not needed. Although one would not think this would have any bearing on PS/2 as I recall it caused PS/2 devices to not work in Windows so might review your BIOS settings for something like that.  Again might not be the issue just FYI.

I also have a Chicony 5181CT which is also Cherry. It did same thing... need to wait for driver to install after logon, kind of hard to enter password for logon without keyboard working lol. I needed to logon with other keyboard, then restart. Works fine after this for me.

Huh.  I have a monterey blue KB-5181 that I've used via a PS/2<>USB converter before and don't recall any problems.
Might have to dig it out and make sure now.

Does it recognize the keyboard at all in device manager? Have you tried a different OS (grab a knoppix boot CD or something) ? Have you tried didjamatic's suggestion?
