Problems with CM Storm Quickfire Rapid
« on: Sat, 23 June 2012, 17:42:07 »
I ordered and CM Storm quickfire rapid a week ago and got it yesterday. When I plug it into my computer, it says USB Device not recognized. I have tried various USB ports and the PS/2 Adaptor, as well as restarting my computer in each one, but it still does not work. I tried my moms laptop and my sisters laptop as well, but got the same result. I tried searching for about 2 hours for other problems like this but did not really find any.

When you plug in the keyboard through ps/2, did you restart your computer?

I am not sure if newer ps/2 connections are plug-and-play but with older computers I had I would have to restart my computer if I plugged a ps/2 peripheral into my computer.
It could just be the cables to but it would be really sad if the keyboard it self was faulty.

I restarted my computer for the PS/2 and for each different USB port. The lights flicker on my moms computer, and when I turn on the computer on my moms computer they light up like most keyboards/mice do, but then it doesn't respond.

Do you have windows 7? I am guessing you already checked the device manager for your keyboard if you've been looking for solutions online.

I have windows vista x64, and my family all have windows 7. The keyboard is compatible with windows xp and later. By checking my device manager, what would I do exactly? Like, what would I do inside of it I mean.

Agh they are lame. I wish I could just see what you are seeing. I really  dislike windows Vista. Everything is a hassle on that OS. Installing a  printer on vista takes hours and always fails unless I install it  manually because the security prompt for modifying system files is  always stopping things. Anyway, enough ranting for me!

If you are  plugging it in through front usb ports try using one the back for now.  Make sure it is not plugged in through any usb hubs or anything of that  sort. If you are looking at the device manager window, look for the  device. It should be under Human Interface Devices, but most likely it  will be under Universal Serial Bus controllers. When it is plugged in  and it didn't install correctly, it will show up as a little yellow icon  with an exclamation mark I believe. Right click on it and either select  'uninstall' (if you can) and then unplug it and try plugging it in  again or select  'check for driver updates'. If that is an option. I  haven't had a device not install correctly for a while so I can't  remember what I did. I just hope it's vista and that your awesome  keyboard isn't broken. :(  Maybe also update windows, try using windows  update. Windows might have  miscellaneous updates for your computer in the misc section of windows  update. Try these drivers: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3693 I doubt they will help but you never know.

I meant to ask, by the way, when you received your  keyboard was the package damaged or did the contents of your box seem  like they were tampered with?

I tried what you said, but it didn't help. There are no drivers installed, so there is not hing to uninstall. As for packaging, there was none.

Doesn't work with multiple computers with different OSs, make the keyboard suspect.

Get RMA from where ever you purchased it, it sounds like you have a defective keyboard, it happens sometimes. Good luck on getting a speedy replacement that works properly.

It should just work without any hassle.  Do you have another USB cable you can try?

Yes, I tried other USB cables, and I tried the USB cable that it came with with something else, and that worked.

So it's probably easier to just go to the store and get a 5 dollar usb cable than to wait for an RMA eh?

I didn't think reflex was saying the cable was bad, rather that he tested it with something else and it was good.

Did I read that wrong?

Yes you're right texasflood, I tested the cable out on other devices and it worked fine.
