Nothing in the mail today, but it's time to catch up with all of my previous recent mail days since there was a bit of light today.  :thumb:

EXCUSE MY MESS OF WIRES AND OTHER JUNK, I have too much stuff on one desk.  :blank:

First off we have the WKL Phantom I purchased from DrHubblePHD. I had a long wait before I received the board, so he was kind enough to include a lot of extra stuff. It originally came in one big bag that said 'DrHubblePHD's most amazing mod kit'. Lots of great stuff in there to get me started.  :thumb:

First thing I did was spring swap (55g gold Sprit springs) and lube the MX blacks in the Phantom, and put the 62g Gateron Clear I was given by Zeal on the esc switch.

Still a lot of work for me to do on this board, it needs to be fully taken apart and the Teensy de-soldered and pushed in tight to the PCB to fit it into my Vortex alu case. The left windows key doesn't work either, but I have no clue what's wrong with it as I swapped the switch out for a known good one, and still no response.

Thanks Hubble!  :thumb:

My recently acquired soldering gear, I've been enjoying learning how to solder.. I'm still a noob but hopefully I will become confident in my abilities.  :))

My Vortex aluminum Filco case, and my QFR MX reds with Frosty Flake V2. It has no caps at the moment, but it should have a nice set on it soon. Planning for this to be my first fully modded by myself board. I ordered another top case to be painted, and I'm looking for a uTKL plate before I de-solder it all and tune the switches.

A Blue Slushy Lion Keyng and polycarb spacebars I received from Hoff. I was given these for no charge, because Hoff is a really nice guy.  ;D

And last but not least, I received a JD40 with MX reds as a gift from JD. I had mentioned in the CtrlAlt advent give away thread that if I had won the JD40 kit, I was going to build it and give it to my girlfriend as a present. A couple days later, JD PM'd me offering to build one for her at no charge. I received the board just a few days before Valentines day and I gave it to her as a Valentines gift. She is currently loving it, she uses it mostly for gaming.

I am pretty blown away by the generosity JD has shown to two complete strangers. It goes to show the special type of community we have here at GeekHack. I don't have any pictures as the board is at my girlfriends house and I still haven't taken pictures of it with my GF yet. But if you read this JD, a (really, really) big thank you from Dakota and Brandi.  :thumb:

Enjoy :thumb:

How much does this gear cost? I'll soon be buying some as well so I wonder if it is in my reach.

Get an FX888D, since Weller changed their manufacturer I don't like the station any more. The new one I had at work was replaced with an old one after only a few days due to large fluctuations in temp.

I'm a noob, but I recommend the FX888D too. It's been really easy to work with. It heats up fast, and the temperature seems to stay rock solid.

I'll check that out thank you.

I was under the assumption that they were made from Cherry MX and already had ideas of making it more bouncy by subbing the springs with heavier ones, still awesome though and extremely jealous :))

I'm guessing you got that from feng. Nice get :thumb: I got my Grey/Lime Green today as well. The green is obnoxiously bright, but in a good way.

feng lists them as Cherry profile, but they're not actually. I could already tell the moment I saw the spacebar. They're similar in profile to the stock key caps from the FC660M/FC700R with the step-culture key caps with the flatter tops as opposed to the slight concave. Exactly the same with the Varmillo caps. Nice thickness though.

New Keycaps!
Red to Black Ombre Printed Thick PBT on my Poker II
Show Image

sorry about the picture quality

I'm guessing you got that from feng. Nice get :thumb: I got my Grey/Lime Green today as well. The green is obnoxiously bright, but in a good way.

feng lists them as Cherry profile, but they're not actually. I could already tell the moment I saw the spacebar. They're similar in profile to the stock key caps from the FC660M/FC700R with the step-culture key caps with the flatter tops as opposed to the slight concave. Exactly the same with the Varmillo caps. Nice thickness though.
Yea I did, I think my EVA set's mods are going to use the same green keys as yours (no print though). Interesting on the profile, will compare them to my 750Rs caps when it comes, don't have any cherry profile caps to compare too.

Make a sly remark to the boss about his wife, throw the ball to him and walk out. Assert dominance

"That guy Naasfu has the attitude we need!"

Max Keyboard MX Key Sampler:

Not my pic, but that's what it is...

Just my opinion, but I really only care for Black and Brown.

Clears and Whites were sort of interesting.

Now I can test ALL the Cherry clones!

EDIT: First impressions: Gateron Blacks and Reds are super smooth, Greetech Reds as well. Greetech Browns are more tactile than MX Browns, but still no Ergo Clears.

Ha I was staring at some of those on Taobao the other day without any switches in them and I couldn't for the life of me figure out what they did. They actually look like they could be very handy for an idea I've had to put some of my artisan caps on display in a lit frame.
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

I got these. Chrome inline translation feature is super useful for browsing Taobao!
