Sony SLO-340. Looks like it is a professional Betacam recorder.
eBay doesn't show any for sale but it seems like they are quite rare and expensive.

Not sure what he's going to do with it but it looks like fun. :)

I have an old reel-to-reel that was my grandfathers' that I want to incorporate into my audio setup later this year so I know these things can be expensive.
