Onyx - FRL TKL with a macro column

Designed by funderburker & quaddepos, PCB design by Upas!

Quaddepos (the co-designer behind GMK Minimal and Perestroika, to name a couple) reached out to me about a layout he had wanted to see so we put our heads together and came up with Onyx! Something new yet classical and designed without any compromises!

Case, Colour and Material options

Onyx will be offered in both WK and WKL top variants, with aluminium top/bottom & brass weight. Designed by Europeans,
Onyx also supports both ANSI and ISO layouts with their own separate plates (ISO plates will only be offered by ISO-centric vendors). No universal plates here!

Oh mama, this is nice! What's the projected manufacturing time? I know it's almost impossible to guess right now but a rough ballpark would be good. That green is lovely, I wish I had a set that would go on it, and I do hope that the Navy is available!

This is a beautiful board, but I have to ask: why in god's sweet boobies does it cost so much?? How is it that Drop can sell the same kind of board, using the same kind of materials, for 1/3 of the proposed price? Seriously, I am curious.

Well, I guarantee that anything Drop sells isn't even in the same ballpark with regards to material cost or quality as this.
Saying "it's the same kind of materials" is like comparing a soda can to an engine block because they both contain aluminum.
There's no Drop boards with a brass weight or plate.
There's no Drop boards that are gasket mounted.
There's no Drop boards with a layout like this.
Drop boards are mass manufactured to reduce costs. This board is very limited in quantity and as such costs more to produce per unit solely based on volume not even considering material costs, machining costs, etc.

This is a nice design and pretty on point with regards to pricing vs other GB boards in it's class.

Calliope is similar, I just wouldn't call it a great comparison personally as it is $100 cheaper. With the only real difference being gasket mount vs top mount. Still, you are spot on about the comparison with Drop

For people that mentioned Navy Blue as their choice - prove it by filling out a form!
Form not only is about a possible colour options change but also to see about the potential addition of PC half-plates, default plate option for base orders and ISO plate demand!

Yes, of course. This is a prototype unit so there have been some slight internal changes but it's mostly around the case screws and everything else has stayed as you see here. Gasket mounted from top and bottom.

Unfortunately yes, we skipped HHKB blocker option as we felt it doesn't quite fit with the layout.
