Topre PBT spacebars! No flaws with any of them and somehow they have solved the clicking issue that I previously had with my HHKB's spacebar :) it just sounds sooo smooth now

Sed8 sent me a very generous Pay It Forward package.  She knew I was looking for some of Punk's caps.  I never managed to snag one back when they were available so she hooked it up.  Hopefully Punks comes back and starts producing again.  His stuff is really ****ing amazing.

Keycaps, keycaps, keycaps!

A crapbag from SP through 00ZeroO.

The ones with 'normal' legends, mostly DSA and OEM. MANY shift-keys. They must be hard to get right.

Blank keys. Many. Mostly Cherry, many DSA, very few SA.

Keys with funny, usable, interesting, custom or weird legends. Includes some 420 keys, at least one MK-key, and some others. No idea what I'll use any of them for, but I'm keeping them.

Trash. By far the smallest bunch.

I'm currently sorting finer and finer, I've already got five bags of blank grey DSA caps in different shades. I'll use them on my Planck, I think, but a 60% might also be possible if I am clever with the layout.

Because, I don't want to reveal how much I really spent.  :-X  Disappointed in the cuts this time around.  There's like one good pair of pants out of the bunch.  Sad.

This is why I don't buy clothes online unless I try them in person first.

Now that the JTK Debuts are shipping I realized I needed a keyboard to use them with.

Enter the Realforce 87U 55g! Gonna be perfect with the sliders

I really enjoy the 55g weight but honestly think I prefer the silenced 45g of my hhkb more.

I need to try 30g topre next  :thumb:

Okay.
This has been an ongoing project for a couple weeks, but I finally finished this project I was doing.

I hava a pair of Alpine 6960 Strontium coax speakers.  I decided to actually put them to use once again.
However, instead of housing them in a car, I decided to make a pair of bookshelf speakers.

Pretty fun little project.

So I had gotten this Bronin a while ago in a BroCap giveaway: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=71123.msg1720767#msg1720767 .

And I had this dirty and sticky ANSI SSK that needed restoration.

With the hardword of Maxx@http://phosphorglow.net/ I have gotten the SSK restored, converted to the azerty #masterrace , orange underlay and a sweet led on the Esc position.

One day I'll lend a good camera for it, because it's really not giving the board nor the bronin justice.

Mine is a refurbished unit I picked up from memotronics for $120 shipped. They replaced the gun and threw in a bunch of extra filters and gave it a 6 month warranty so that was cool. There's a seller on ebay out of Italy that's selling for something in the neighborhood of $160 shipped I believe.

Here's a quick video of me desoldering an apple desktop bus keyboard (excuse the wobbling my phone was on top of my magnifying lamp):

So you wait till the solder is liquid, then press the trigger and the solder gets sucked up through the middle of the tip?

So you wait till the solder is liquid, then press the trigger and the solder gets sucked up through the middle of the tip?

Yep. The suction is strong and constant so unlike a soldapult you don't have to worry about getting a perfect seal over the top of the pad. This makes it much, much, much easier on bent pins.

It gets collected in the chamber behind the tip and occasionally you just clear it with a cleaning stick. The filters are cheap and you can pull of layers so they can last a long time. I could probably desolder 2 or 3 boards without worrying about the filter at all, just emptying the chamber.

Sounds great. I don't desolder enough for it to be worth the expense, but I can definitely see the value.

A desoldering station...

Never going back...
how much was it? Thinking of getting one aswell  :D

That is pretty fast. When I get more time to assemble things I'll def look into it!
Very busy with studies atm.

nice stuff you got there!

Thanks! Art books are the only things I don't mind blowing money on, and Spice and Wolf Illustrations is easily the highest quality (non instructional) one I own. Juu Ayakura has a very happy style.

I just got the RK rc930-87 POM keycap topre clone keyboard thanks to ryvius777 here. I immediately plugged it in and found it to feel pretty great. I don't know what authentic topre keyboards sound or feel like in person but I think that for a cheap alternative for now, I actually like it. I'd been playing with it for a few hours now and really like what it feels and sounds like. There's some key pinging every now and again with the spacebar but that's only sometimes. I'm usually pretty gentle so it hasn't happened all that often. It does sound like a rolling boil  if my typing increase so that's interesting. I would love to get a chance to get authentic topre but I thought that this is a decent alternative for now.

It wasn't today but it was this week and I got the Dell QuietKey and the Dell AT101W. I'm glad I saved up a bit of spending money so I can splurge a little!

So fancy!
