How might I remove the backspace key on my filco?

Use a paper clip or wire puller, pull the key and lube stabilizer. Then put the key back on

Not so fast, the backspace has a stabilizer.  Sooooo,

You carefully pull up on the keycap until it comes loose from the switch, however it will still be attached to the stabilizer.  You then have to finagle the stabilizer out of the keepers on the cap.  You should probably pull the = ] and \ caps to make your life easier the first time around.

Basically do what alaricljs said, gently pull on the cap until you feel it slip off the stem.

Then, what you want to do is gently push it to one side, while simultaneously lifting the opposite site. Do all this very gently, but be firm. Eventually the side that you're pulling up will pop off, and you will see the small white inserts.

Apply some lube (I prefer White Lithium Grease) to the slots on those inserts, then re-install, basically by reversing the steps you took to take the key off.

Thanks, guys. I successfully removed and lubricated the backspace key, enter key, and shift key with your advice.

Now they make a nice "clunk" noise.
