Just got my MaxKeyboard keycaps, backlightable
« on: Fri, 03 August 2012, 19:34:15 »
I ordered these ($10) and got them today. Excited, as it seems really impossible to get backlit keycaps that are custom. I hope they do more!
The pic is my Tesoro Durandal Ultimate G1NL.

Sleabo is doing customisable backlight keycaps.

Just PM him, and organise a group buy.

From my understanding of what's been said, Sleabo's aren't standard profiles.

What do you consider standart profile?

A match to either SP or Filco.  Their J series matches Cherry, which I thought didn't match SP or Filco.  Their B series they don't mention one way or the other what it's like.

SP can do custom backlit sets, actually.

i am curious what profile these are. maxkeyboard sells rebrands from the same ODM as Xarmor, and i assumed they had the same key OEM as every one of the ODMs over there does, but one doesn't know until one measures :D

can you take some pics comparing the profile of these keys with others you have?

Do you mean like the deck keycaps? I don't remember them offering this service anywhere.

specifically, they can coat their clear caps and then laser the coating off according to your design.

the nice thing about this, as well, is that the pricing should be fairly good, as they've actually started keeping most of the clear cap profiles in inventory (meaning no molding needs to be done to fill some orders). something to consider, now that we have so many backlit boards on the market.

I can tell you this. They match my Durandal perfectly. Caps I bought on Ebay are too short for the same row spec. esc and the F keys. I'll post a pic soon with what I bought unless you have your answer.

So would these be the same profile as, say, a Ducky Shine??
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I'll leave that to the experts with the Duck. I can say these match the MaxKeyboards and my Tesoro. And the source from this manufacturer. Since Max offers no other version and uses them in customizing this series.

i believe the xarmor boards all use the same profile as filco/ducky/et al, but someone else should confirm, as i've only owned a filco and ducky..

From the left: The original Esc key, the Max Running Man key. Then Two keys I bought on Ebay both rated for Esc F-Key row.

Still having image issues. (1 pic uploaded) trying to upload 2nd.

SP is Signature Plastics, and most GBs are for their keys.

edit:  I've just run through the attachment options, they all worked.
