Hello Hello Geekhack its me again! and im looking to get my wallet hacked again because well i need a new headset. Im currently using a Turtle beach PX21. I strongly dislike it its not very comfortable for using long periods of time and the sound quality isn't that good only plus it has is that the microphone quality isn't just terrible. I payed alot of money for it probably over a year ago ((like 90 dollars)) and this was before i started getting into good computer gear ((mech keyboards mouses etc)). This time i don't want to make a mistake like that again but i want to invest into a new headset and i cant decide.
What do you guys think or what do you use that you like im looking for anything preferably under 110. Ive been looking at the SteelSeries Siberia V2 but im not so sure. I don't seem to like big brand name stuff they seem to have alot of faults ((like alot of razer products have)). So i decided to do more digging and i found a plantronics gamescon 780 which does not look to bad either. But im still not sure it will suit my needs and the issue with the headset is it isnt usb powered so i have my doubts about its sound. im willing to look at more if you guys have any ideas.
What im currently looking for or like in the requirements ((give or take a few)) Is:
Under 110 dollars
NOT WIRELESS
Comfortable
Nice sound quality
Preferably available on amazon
Durable
Loud
((microphone not really necessary but would be nice))
I also would like to mention that i kind of like the big squared headsets but that's not the most important i just think they look nice and would be more comfortable. So what are your guys opinions what do you think would suit me right? It will be mostly used for gaming and some music and skype on the side but overall it wont be used for just watching a youtube video or listening to music alot throughout the day. Any other features negative or positive please add on if you would to help me decide and what you might think about them.
THANKS!
I'd grab a fostex T50 (Or Audio Technica ATH-AD700) and send the rest of the budget on a decent mic. Both are low impedance; My mac pro is on the lowest volume setting. The fostex can handle 3W peak, because it's a planar-magnetic boss, so that should be plenty loud enough. Some say the AD700's are a bit bass light. My AD900's are perfect for me (not a basshead) and have the most amazing soundstage ever. This makes positioning in games particularly effective. The T50's are planar magnetic, and do bass a bit better.
There are already some guides for putting a mic on AD700's. Some methods are easier than others. Many agree that it's an excellent headphone for gaming. Myself, I prefer not having a mic attached to my head. I like ones on my desk or in my webcam.
The AD700's use the wing design, and it's the most comfortable headphone ever. I have worn mine for 17+ hours at a stretch without taking them off, and it's been great. It's like they're not even here. The Fostex's are designed for hard studio use, and are amazingly durable. I sling mine around in my backpack for 18+ months, and they show no signs of wear. They aren't as comfortable, but I can still put in many hours no problem. (not like uncomfortable Grados, ugh.)
I'm pretty sure both are available on Amazon. Both are wired, and the fostex has a cable that unplugs from both ends. (with a normal miniplug, so if you get one of those slim ones for phones, you can replace it with a mini-mini cable. You will need to do this with the T50 or get an adaptor, though, as it comes with a 1/4 default. Audio technica has a combo plug.
