What kind of clipless? The only kind I have really liked are Time ATACs. Why not cages?

So have you started a weightweenies account mr.weekend warrior?

also your gearing is bad in that pic. never run big-big or small-small... its bad for the chain, bad for the sprockets and bad for the derailer.

cages on a felt trollolo

i like eggbeaters a lot but they're not the best for extended road rides since there's basically no platform to transfer energy.

Here is the thing, if you want to ride everywhere and not get stuck bring 2 pairs of shoes just do cages with some leather straps.

Just use your clip-less for 40+ mile rides, etc.

Don't forget to replace your helmet every so often. UV degrades the plastic and less and less safe as time goes on (my roomate is a competitive road/offroad cyclist)

Funny thing... I can't ride a motorcycle without a helmet but I can't wear a helmet on a bicycle.  The one time I did I couldn't rip the damned thing off fast enough to staunch the bleeding when I crashed.  Managed to hit a rock perfectly with my head such that the rock nailed me low on the side of my temple right under the edge of the helmet.

I've gone down many times since quitting the helmet and have never hurt my head since that day.

Congratulations and good luck with your quest for fitness.

You have taken the first step and sacrificed some treasured keyboards, which is far more than most people would do, so I salute you!
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Did my first half century today!!!

And I fell in the last quarter mile because my body tipped to the side my shoe was still clipped into. Got a nice little scrape on both of my legs.

So my rides have gone:

1st - 10 miles
2nd - 22 miles
3rd - 30 miles
4th - 16 miles (street)
5th - 50 miles

Man riding on the street is NOTHING like a trail. After 13 miles I was dying to get back to my car.

But I think a lot had to do with having a crappy breakfast.

But it was fun as hell riding in traffic. Little scary when I had big rigs near me. But everybody was great about giving me space and the right of way when I merged.

Being afraid of heights, pole vaulting is just insane O.O

And ~4 hrs.

I know it's slow compared to others, but I'm trying to build endurance before I build speed. I think my top speed was 23.7mph

Also, I had to climb Santa Fe dam. That almost killed me as that was me first "true" climb.
