hey there, my dear and faithfull companion Logitech G5 just completed his lifespan after serving me for 3 whole years at work and home, and now passed on to mice heaven. It is a very sad moment for me and my PC, we stroke it gently and pray that our teardrops that fall on the scroll might bring it back to life, but it seems like this mouse is no more, it has ceased to be, it has expired and gone to meet it't maker. it's a stiff! Bereft of life, it rests in peace, If i hadn't kept the USB plugged in it would be pushing up the daisies! (yeah you know the rest)
Now, im looking for a replacement. I found G5 (version 2 in black/blue with the now standard 2 thumb buttons) to be the perfect mouse for my fingertip-claw hybrid style. Others might think of it as more of an "ergonomical" or even palm grip mouse, but I have quite large hands, so i am able to rest my palm at the mousepad while stiring the mice with my thumb and fingertips. I guess its some sort of palm-fingertip grip, except i dont have the palm on the mouse, but i use the entire rest of my hand to move the mouse. Thumb to stir it right, pinky to stir it left, with the rest of the fingers supporting. when moving up/down i switch into a claw-grip and use all of my fingertips to pull the mouse forward or backward with the palm always resting on the table.
Now, i am looking for a mouse with similiar size and ergonomics. I have tried the Logitech models that are meant to "succeed" it like g500 but i didnt like them, mainly because of the glossy fabric, it wasnt nearly as steady fealing as the cracked assymetrical "griptape" that covered the G5 (the blue and black one that i owned).
i have owned SpawN (the one with the weights in the middle) but i didnt feel comfortable with it, it felt sort of clumsy and not as smooth as the G5 for circular movements.
my friend has recommended Zowie AM or Razer Naga Hex but there is nowhere i can try these on before actually buying. ive gotten tons of "deathadder of course... dont you own one yet?!" responses. but i doubt it will fit my grip style since Intellimouse works terrible for me and they are very similiar. Some say that Mamba is actually smaller and sleeker than DA and works for fingertippers with large hands, but its a little expensive.
So right now it basicly comes down to Zowie or Naga. the Zowie looks more ergonomic, yet the multiple buttons on Naga would actually be very benefitial to me (talking about the hex version with 8 buttons) since i play lots of MMOs, and the size and shape doesnt look to bad either. My Concern with the naga is that it looks very oily and "plastic" (again, the hex version that comes in jade green or red. the original naga is not for me because i disliked the positioning and feel of the side buttons, the became more of an obstacle than a tool), and i believe its quite light aswell wich would take me some time to get used to since i use some weights on my G5.
Other suggestions, or comments on the mentioned mice would be greatly appreciated. If you have only tried or only own one of them, please provide some information and pros and cons, what grip type you use etc rather than just posting "i own the naga and its great"
