so I bought this at K-mart today for 6 dollars
« on: Wed, 12 September 2012, 15:19:25 »
This store has been closing for a while now, so I decided to drop in and see what they had.  I found this board with Cherry MX blacks and the manager sold it to me for only six dollars.  The connection for the keyboard was RJ-11, but it didn't look like any other WYSE keyboard I'd seen -- is that what I'm looking at here?

Cleaning these keycaps was not fun, but they look much better now.

well unless your lighting is really yellow, you're not gonna find a 'matching' moogle set :P Might want to try retrobrite but I have 'faded' wyse keys that way so be careful with it

hah, yeah, these caps are pretty yellowed compared to how they look when you look at the underside, but it's not too bad.  anything that's closer than black would probably do the trick, though :)

You could buy the $18 red overrun set form SP and use that as a moogle

Are those key caps doubleshot-moulded with dark blue legends like on a real Wyse? I could not see it in these pics.

The boards were re/de-branded and destributed with a dozen 'brands' of terminals, all identical except keycaps. Most of them used black on white/beige, but there were a couple brands with thier unique branding colors like Wyse navy and yellow legends, and Triad with thier graphite/charcoal scheme.

That's probably one of the best purchases anyone has made at a K-Mart, ever.

Nice find :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

It's almost certainly a rebranded WYSE PCE (likely an 840358-01). Nice Vintage blacks. You should look into retrobriting the keycaps with H2O2.

Sweet find!
