Looks ugly to me.
I don't like the macro keys either. I hope they make a board without.
They won't, the number of "gamers" who like macro keys is surprisingly bigger than the number of people who dislike them.
Also, obviously, the number of people who really don't really use those macros is surprisingly bigger than the number of people who do use them oftenly.
But hey, try to convince a 14 years old (or someone with the mentality of one) that he doesn't needs a shiny keyboard with lots of extra keys, but a good mechanical TKL keyboard for less space usage and more practical use?
Just like anything else:
Plenty of people acquire "powerful" or "extra" tools and capabilities, and barely even use them.
Ex: who drives a Corvette 180mph on public roads and highways? Sure, some do, but that's not exactly "smart."
Ex: How many times have we all seen just one d-bag rolling a huge, jacked-up 4x4, around an
urban area, who never hauls or tows anything?
Not everyone who likes this board "is, or thinks like, a 14 year old."
Consider:
I got mine for $127.50, day of release, shipped in 2 days.
Browns, LED, O-rings.
And "extra" macro keys... and the ability to use those 6 extra keys for almost anything i want, both in gaming and
non-gaming modes.
And a volume roller knob, which i rather like, so that i don't have to lean in and reach for my speaker knob, and don't have to make micro-perfect mouse-movements, to control my sound volume.
Comes with it's own wrist-rest (ok, not really much of an important factor, but it counts at least a little...)
You tell me:
Where else can i get a back-lit, full-size, media-keys + macro-keys, O-rings, with Browns...
For
any less than 127.50?
You can't, that's where.
We can hate on logitech and "gamers" all day, but the fact remains: very usable board with many appealing features, and a design that some still find appealing, even if it's not the epitome of minimalism, and the envy of all keyboard-elitist-hipsters.
I seriously doubt that logitech ever intended or believed they'd be making "the greatest and most widely appealing mechanical keyboard of all time, ever..." when they commissioned the g710+.
I think they know their market, knew what they were doing, and made a
good product, which, just like anything else, might not be what everyone wants, and might have a few (or even quite a few) defective units.
Mine seems fine. One of the "g-keys" is ever-so-slightly under-sprayed, and a few tiny little traces of light are barely visible, if you
stare at it, from the left side of the board (in other words: you can't even see it while you're
using the board).
You don't have to "love it," but... "only stupid little kids like this board" is just going too far.
I think: only "14 year olds" go around calling someone "14 years old," just because they like different things... while completely ignoring any
value that is both obvious and perceived, by the person they label as "14 years old."
I can tell you right now, i've played some "complex" MMO's, in which, instead of remapping
my entire keyboard, i would have loved to just have some extra buttons.
When not gaming, they can be used for other stuff.
I think it's pretty "14 years old," to deny the usefulness of having a few extra keys, and then call everyone who sees the value in this board "14 years old."
It might not be your favorite thing in the world, and maybe you have some sort of irrational prejudice against "gamers," or "14 year olds," or "people who like things you don't."
But, all things considered, the board "does not suck," and, realistically, is pretty much right in line with the typical expected costs of other "similar" boards... as well as comparable to the cost of buying something with "less features," and then modding it yourself.
Every company makes bad units sometimes. It's just "the nature of the beast," with anything mass-produced... and anything "hand-made," is typically far more expensive than anything else.
I suppose the
less "14 years old" thing to do, would be to not post this...
But sometimes, i just can't stand to let people be
wrong on the internet...Even though, in the end, you can't really
make someone
not be.
