Too bad Logitech couldn't have licensed Topre... it would have been more in line with thier existing products and they may have even been able to use thier own production equipment to make them. Also if mass produced $150 for Topre would actually be an attractive price in comparison to Realforce, even if it was butt ugly.

Once retailers start putting out displays of the G710, I feel like standing at the aisle of FRYs or Best Buy and see if any one harvests the key caps.

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Yeah, looks like 1.5 1 1.25 6.25 1.25 1 1 1.5 so it's a little better than the usual iOne arrangement since it has a standard size space bar instead of 6 unit. I wouldn't want one, but if it was between this and a Black Widow... I don't know. Since they are such a big brand I imagine they have a chance at being stocked at a lot of places that are harder to get mech boards local. I guess it will displace some of thier high price domes boards in thier line up, so that isn't a bad thing.

Your math is off. It may be a 6.5x spacebar.

Yeah, it's 6.5 spacebar which is f*cktarded. It was early... I make mistakes a lot more first thing.
I don't get why some use nonstandard sizes, what is this the 80's again where everyone just does whatever? I can see on mini sometimes you need to make a compromise so there is a little justification, but not on a fullsize. It is just for no reason at all. Standards exist for a reason!

It's not possible, the key cap needs to fit around the switch or be the size of a switch stem to be able to depress the switch.

They are full-width, half height... so nowhere near the size of a stem.  Besides, if they were Cherry and the size of the stem, then no backlight.

I think it's based off the Corsair K90 if I'm not mistaken, I wonder how many keys are mechanical >___>

Oh I also went to their website sounds like they have built in o-ring dampers, I wonder if they made their own version or just use the generic o-ring.  Because I kind of don't like the typical o-ring.

Though I must say this sure look a lot better in the video than the original CG concept  :P

For a main stream keyboard...
+ I like the best of both worlds approach (mechanical / quite(r))
+ I like the color choice. White backlit is my favorite color (although back lights are not created equal, and iOne's back lighting doesn't compare to Ducky)
+ If I were still a keyboard noob, I would love the design of this board (easy to reach distinguishable macro keys, volume knob, etc.)

- I hate that Logitech ate up the global supply of Brown MX switches to make this board.
- Nonstandard keys = fail.
- Even for a full size, it's too big.
- The angled edges aren't my personal choice.

On a side note, I would like to point out that everyone assumes that iOne is so much cheaper than Costar b/c it's made in China, but based on my talks from Computex, Costar is the same price if not cheaper.  I think this has more to do with iOne controlling Brown Switches and getting cocky from landing big accounts like Logitech than quality, but don't think that because Filcos are marked up to the gills on Amazon that they're really that much more expensive to make.

I've received 87key pricing from costar... They are very much NOT expensive in quantity.  I don't know where to start when it comes to figuring out freight and warehousing and all, but the boards are cheap.  In fact, I'm surprised at CM's QFR pricing.

Name 1 quality keyboard that came out of iOne factory. Exactly. Logitards will eat this up like Razertards think Blackwidow is a nice keyboard. The like to dislike ratio on that last vid says it all.

Good point.  I haven't seen anything too impressive from iOne other than their Purple LEDs that actually look like the color Purple.  There is value to be found in spots in terms of 'bang for your buck', but in terms of 'top notch mechanical boards' - not so much.

Realistically though to all the GH enthusiasts - when Logitech came out with their first Mechanical Keyboard, did you expect anything other than this?  It's the typical bells and whistles design with mechanical switches.  Follow the money.  Razor takes the same approach with their boards.  Even using Blue Cherry MX on 'Gaming' keyboards, I believe they make up over 50% of global mechanical keyboard sales (could just be domestic US, so don't quote me on this - either way it's a lot).  At least Logitech picked the right switches (and caused a global shortage doing so lol).

I'll let you guys know if it's as "terrible" as you (haters) predict, soon-ish. ;)

<rant class="casual">

1) i don't want to hear about "orange," because plenty of people apparently actually like orange enough for entire "hack orange" sets to be available.

2) Yes, it's not tiny. I would love to have a tiny board, without sacrificing or complicating functionality. However, it's also not "huge." It's still pretty "minimalist," for a "full-size gaming board." It doesn't have a lot of "extra" edge-material, even with the angled/sloped sides.

3) i'm pretty sure i'll like the ("muted") browns.

4) i saw how it looks in low-light, without much "back bleed" at all, and really liked that.

5) i think it would be hilarious to exacerbate the 'omg-orange-is-so-terrible' "problem," by replacing the "g-keys," with lambda's! (or maybe even replacing the entire alpha section with "horrible-orange" side prints. Yeah. ^^

6) i like the volume roller knob, and the mute button.

7) i like that it has g-keys, but only 6 of them, instead of a huge left-side panel of 18 (like the g510).

8) though it is not the ultimate expression of zen-minimalism, the function is more important to me than the form.

9) just because i chose to acquire one of these, the first day they were available, while also receiving a discount and free 3-day shipping from newegg: this does not mean i "don't know keyboards." I still get all sweaty and drool-y, every time i see a pimped-out poker/pure/race/choc-mini/hhkb... and i still hope to have a chance to acquire a "GH60," once they're ready.

10) while i'm sure iOne at least somewhat deserves the ire of so many of you (assuming this is, indeed, their creation), if they did "everything wrong," they wouldn't sell any boards.

People have different preferences and like different things for different reasons.

I like what i think this board will be, for me... and if it fails and i hate it, i'll get rid of it.

But, as so many of you 1337 keyboard-aholics are certainly aware... owning this board doesn't mean that i can't own others, nor does it mean that any other board i might want, automatically has to be terrible, just because i happen to like the g710+.

I have been very close to pulling the trigger on a race, a pure, a poker, or a choc mini, for a while... and before i even knew what those were, i was looking into a g510. I didn't like how "huge" it was. Then i signed up here and started learning about mechs.

Then, boom, here's logitech with their first mech, and despite what any of you "snobs" may think, this board seems to do quite a few things i actually like.

Nothing is ever perfect. I've never seen a perfect keyboard. Sometimes you have to compromise. Too bad no one makes a programmable "60%" with f-row, one column of macro-keys, a roller-knob, and "media keys." (though the "media keys" are not really a selling point on this, to me. The only 2 media keys i'd even care about, would be "web" and "mail." "Media players" usually have shortcuts anyway.) (yes, i know the choc mini does some of those things... but modding adds up quickly, and the g710 is pretty much "already there.")

What i don't like about the g710+, aside from the fact that it isn't a "96key" or a "60-75%," is the "grey" wasd and arrow keys. I would have preferred they match the rest of the keys. In fact, i'm so annoyed by the light grey, that i might actually replace them with orange keys from wasd... or maybe the side-print set i mentioned above. The orange doesn't bother me nearly as much as the grey does.

So we'll see. I expect that i will be reasonably pleased with this board, especially since i didn't have to pay $150 for it. If it's great, i can say "i got it on the first day," and everyone will think i'm just that awesome. lol.

If not, then you can all say you told me so. ^^

I don't see many really BASHING the board, it's styling is aimed at "gamers". What most concerns me is who manufactured it as this would be the main determining factor in whether or not I add the board to my recommendation list (oddly enough some people specifically want volume rollers on their keyboard when asked what they would most like or can't do without... lol).

@ShakeR: I guess I didn't expect anything other than another gaudy G series keyboard. No surprise there.

@ ferociousfingerings:
I don't think it is suggested only n00bs will buy this board. It is just people should know what they're getting into with iOne and adjust the expectations. The quality isn't there for the price you pay. Some of us expect our boards to be still working in 10-20 years. iOne... Right.

@TheProfosist: I'll probably collect a TK, but I noticed both TK and G710+ has same bottom row config. Cowinkydink or same OEM?

It would be nice to know it weren't iOne, we know the TK will not be and rumors are saying iRocks so far. I haven't come across much info on iRocks myself yet though, but as far as I know they're another chinese oem and their QC is better than iOne.

Not that i'm a "hardcore-gamer," but i've been known to put in a marathon session when i have enough time and interest in a certain game. I don't game much, these days, but i'm sure i could still find a use for g-keys, outside of gaming.

As for expectations... in life, i typically expect to be disappointed in everything, and to always be forced to choose between paying more than i'd like, or just not having things at all. Overpaying is part of life. Either you spend more than you'd like on the nice things you want... or you go without nice things. Everything that's nice, costs "too much." Sometimes it's worth overpaying for a nice thing. Money isn't worth what it should be... and neither is Human life and our finite time in this existence.

I honestly don't expect to even need a keyboard in 20 years. Whether i'm even still around in 20 years, I'm sure the world will be very different by then. Might as well enjoy these "gaudy" "overpriced" "gaming boards," while i can...

I've never actually (ab)used a keyboard long enough to break one... and i certainly won't be mistreating an expensive one. I'll probably even cover it w/ a towel, when not in use.

Maybe my judgement is skewed, because of this horrible second-hand dirty HP (that i tried to clean) that i'm still stuck with. What i'm currently using, makes me feel like the price i paid for the g710+ is "worth it." (considering the aforementioned expectation of disappointment and everything "nice" costing "too much.") (and: how much cost is "worth it" to enjoy your keyboarding experience? Ask anyone w/ an HHKB or Phantom.)

It's not all that much more than any of my other options... cheaper than some, actually... and i'm not sure the others i'd like (race/pure/poker/choc-mini... hhkb notwithstanding...) would last "20 years" either. I have a feeling that as long as i don't go all "hulk mode" and rage into my g710+, and it stays on my desk as i intend, there is only a profoundly small chance that it will ever "break."

I tend to be careful and cautious, and respect and care for, my few overpriced nice things... because nice things cost too much, and i like my nice things. I type on this HP board like IDGAF... most of the alpha legends are gone... paint corroded off the case below the spacebar... and it's still not broken. ^^

If i'm a "n00b" just because i also like this board (in addition to the ones the elite-pros say are "best"), it wouldn't be the first time an elitist has called me noob. I've played several MMO's for extended periods, as well as quite a bit of FPS. I've seen the internets. People love being critics. People love to troll. As long as it works, i'm sure it'll be a nice board... even if it's not perfect, and isn't what all the cool kids tell me to like.

Besides... i'm kind of used to being a social pariah.

But that's the issue; IF it is manufactured by a OEM that has poor QC it has a higher chance of failing with normal use. It wouldn't matter if you've raged on it or not, poor construction is poor no matter what it looks like. I seriously hope that it's made by a decent OEM myself so that people that fall in head-over-heels for this board as their first mech. don't just turn around and go "oh... it's no better than Razer" or "What's the hook of mechanicals? This is my third RMA, I thought they were supposed to be durable...".

I don't think anyone's calling you a noob for liking the board though, most seem more curious about the thing.

Not that I'd ever buy one myself, but it'd be depressing if nobody even gave it a chance. At the very least, having an owner around will let us talk about it with something more that pure speculation.

Last 'gaming keyboard' I owned was a Razer Arctosa, which I got rid of within 3 months.. never owned a Logitech one, but the G keys have never appealed to me, plus I think the board looks horrific.. I think I've vomitted up nice looking things..

Ooooooooh...

I am... really liking it, so far. Part of that is my 1st experience w/ browns... Which is awesome.

Got it ~12hrs ago...

The only "flaw" i've found with it so far, is that the g3 key seems to have been ever-so-slightly "undersprayed" with black coating, and you can just barely see a few particles of light, eeking through the left side of the key (which isn't visible from the typing position).

It is... almost exactly like the pictures.

It does, in fact, possess a "delete" key. (lol)

I like the font.

Backlight looks great, IMO.

Works in vista x64 out of the box, comes with the "g-keys" mapped as "f-key" duplicates (ie: g1-6 = f1-6). Installed software and found that you can easily make the g-keys do "functions," such as opening default web or mail client.

I took "crappy cell-phone pics" of the unboxing, a comparison with my now-cast-out "dirty HP," and the new g710+ residing in its designated position (beside my g700, atop my goliathus speed extended mat).

I'm totally too biased right now, with the "omg new 1st mech!" feeling, to be writing an actual review/critique.

Feels "heavy" enough. Feels "solid" enough... though there is certainly a bit of "key wobble." Doesn't feel like it's just gonna fall apart... but it's obviously not a "tank" by any stretch.

I'd have to say overall first impression is quite good; honestly, about as good as a "first impression" can be.

I'm also wondering if it's possible to pop out that orange piece without breaking anything. It looks... like it might possibly detach safely. If so... paint could happen.

I totally thought about it...
Still considering it, actually...

However, seeing as how mine seems to be perfectly functional, i don't want to "upset the applecart."

Right shift inside corner "hangs" a bit.
Mods are "loose-ish."
Not sure which key(s) it's coming from, but... something is "pinging" slightly.
I've read a few reports of LED issues; mine seem perfect.

Here's mine:
6340-0
6342-1
6344-2
6346-3

And where it lives:
6348-4

Sorry for lo-fi crappy cell phone pics. :P

Edit:
I just noticed/realized, these were taken immediately as unboxing/setup occurred, and so before i installed the LGS, the M1/M2/M3 buttons were not lit. One of them is always on, to indicate your current macro "channel," and as in the videos i'm sure you've all seen, it's amber/orange (and the "MR" light is red). Obviously, the half-height media short-keys are not mechanical, but everything else you'd expect to be, is.

There we go, if we didn't had a good reason before for you to disassemble your keyboard and find for us what the OEM is, there's one.

Assuming that, unlike the one "hammerforged" has, mine actually has identifying markings to indicate the OEM.

no real branding, but there was this:
LOG  218U
US KR EU BR 120612  V1.8

I haven't found anything with that info, but I'm not all familiar with PCB labeling/serial numbers, maybe someone else has some info?

edit; bah, completely missed this page of comments, oh well.

Looks ugly to me.

I don't like the macro keys either. I hope they make a board without.

They won't, the number of "gamers" who like macro keys is surprisingly bigger than the number of people who dislike them.

Also, obviously, the number of people who really don't really use those macros is surprisingly bigger than the number of people who do use them oftenly.

But hey, try to convince a 14 years old (or someone with the mentality of one) that he doesn't needs a shiny keyboard with lots of extra keys, but a good mechanical TKL keyboard for less space usage and more practical use?
