I'll let you guys know if it's as "terrible" as you (haters) predict, soon-ish. ;)
<rant class="casual">
1) i don't want to hear about "orange," because plenty of people apparently actually like orange enough for entire "hack orange" sets to be available.
2) Yes, it's not tiny. I would love to have a tiny board, without sacrificing or complicating functionality. However, it's also not "huge." It's still pretty "minimalist," for a "full-size gaming board." It doesn't have a lot of "extra" edge-material, even with the angled/sloped sides.
3) i'm pretty sure i'll like the ("muted") browns.
4) i saw how it looks in low-light, without much "back bleed" at all, and really liked that.
5) i think it would be hilarious to exacerbate the 'omg-orange-is-so-terrible' "problem," by replacing the "g-keys," with lambda's! (or maybe even replacing the entire alpha section with "horrible-orange" side prints. Yeah. ^^
6) i like the volume roller knob, and the mute button.
7) i like that it has g-keys, but only 6 of them, instead of a huge left-side panel of 18 (like the g510).
8) though it is not the ultimate expression of zen-minimalism, the function is more important to me than the form.
9) just because i chose to acquire one of these, the first day they were available, while also receiving a discount and free 3-day shipping from newegg: this does not mean i "don't know keyboards." I still get all sweaty and drool-y, every time i see a pimped-out poker/pure/race/choc-mini/hhkb... and i still hope to have a chance to acquire a "GH60," once they're ready.
10) while i'm sure iOne at least somewhat deserves the ire of so many of you (assuming this is, indeed, their creation), if they did "everything wrong," they wouldn't sell any boards.
People have different preferences and like different things for different reasons.
I like what i think this board will be, for me... and if it fails and i hate it, i'll get rid of it.
But, as so many of you 1337 keyboard-aholics are certainly aware... owning this board doesn't mean that i can't own others, nor does it mean that any other board i might want, automatically has to be terrible, just because i happen to like the g710+.
I have been very close to pulling the trigger on a race, a pure, a poker, or a choc mini, for a while... and before i even knew what those were, i was looking into a g510. I didn't like how "huge" it was. Then i signed up here and started learning about mechs.
Then, boom, here's logitech with their first mech, and despite what any of you "snobs" may think, this board seems to do quite a few things i actually like.
Nothing is ever perfect. I've never seen a perfect keyboard. Sometimes you have to compromise. Too bad no one makes a programmable "60%" with f-row, one column of macro-keys, a roller-knob, and "media keys." (though the "media keys" are not really a selling point on this, to me. The only 2 media keys i'd even care about, would be "web" and "mail." "Media players" usually have shortcuts anyway.) (yes, i know the choc mini does some of those things... but modding adds up quickly, and the g710 is pretty much "already there.")
What i don't like about the g710+, aside from the fact that it isn't a "96key" or a "60-75%," is the "grey" wasd and arrow keys. I would have preferred they match the rest of the keys. In fact, i'm so annoyed by the light grey, that i might actually replace them with orange keys from wasd... or maybe the side-print set i mentioned above. The orange doesn't bother me nearly as much as the grey does.
So we'll see. I expect that i will be reasonably pleased with this board, especially since i didn't have to pay $150 for it. If it's great, i can say "i got it on the first day," and everyone will think i'm just that awesome. lol.
If not, then you can all say you told me so. ^^
