Midwest Meetup #2
« on: Wed, 03 October 2012, 20:54:06 »
I suggest that we do a meetup again! I know that there is some interest in this, it has also been expressed that people would like it farther north than Chicago. I have heard Madison, Chicago, and I'm open to other places too. I think we should shoot for January-February time period. Suggestions welcome! I hope to see everyone there!

Anywhere between Chicago to New York works for us, outside that region it start to get too far  :(

I won't mind doing Chicago if I don't have to drive anywhere in the city or someone picks me up from the train station. I have family in Kenosha so I could take the train down from there.

Yeah, Odessa is a *little* far away from Dallas.
Odessa, Ukraine?  of is there another one?  lol

I live in Great Lakes area,  I have no problem going to Chicago.  It's an hour on the train, so I made it to the last meetup.  I will go to one anywhere in Illinois or Wisconsin, provided I don't have to work.

This thread is much more chaotic than the MN one... I believe the only choices of "where" were 2 restaurants.

I still remember the waitresses at the meetup. I was pouring out a bag of DS when one of them came over and said "Oh, are you guys playing a game?". To which I replied "Yeah, it's called making money.".

I'd be up for this.  Chicago is cool with me.  I can carpool with somebody from Indianapolis, or I might just take the bus if nobody else is interested.

I would love to test out some different keyboard switches .

Did I just see on a different post that somebody is from Indy here?

One thing I would suggest if you are coming from Minneapolis in the winter is using Megabus or Greyhound Express so you don't have to drive.  I've taken those services many times around the Midwest.  The crowd is not nearly as "interesting" as the stereotypical Greyhound rider.   If you purchase far enough in advance, the deals are extraordinary.

How come? Just curious. Also, we MUST go to a place I can come... so no 21 and over to enter, please.

I am talking to the guys at the only current Chicago HackerSpace, Pumping Station One. I'm not sure if they will allow us to come in, but I'll try and get an answer.

The Chicago hackerspace sounds like it'd be tough to get going. You must post in their mailing list, get a sponsor, and then be able to use the space. Meh.

I will be in the Chicago area already (Rosemont) for work on February 19-21.  I could easily see coming up the afternoon before (18th) or staying later the afternoon/evening of the 21st, to participate.  The evenings of the 19th & 20th would likely be work "team building" events, so I'd like to see this kept to the either the 18th or the 21st.  IF it worked out that way.
