I think it's a VERY good deal at that price point, especially with amazon prime. If you don't like them, Amazon is always great with returns.

Check it out.

Also if the m50s clamp too hard, you can stretch out the headband by placing the headphones over some pillows for a few days.

This is a pretty decent deal. I got mine a few years go for around the same price. After that, the MSRP of these shot up and rarely hit the sale price of around $100. The cable is waaay too long though. I braided mine to shorten it.

I don't have a modmic, but I've seen it being recommended around head-fi. Mic sound quality isn't too important as long as your listeners can hear you clearly and static free. I use a cheap logitech headset that I hang around my neck when I game with my friends.

Anyway the mic went on great and works very well.  I love how light weight it is and I have it bent in a way that I can't see it out of my peripheral vision.  I cant even tell its there, it just works.  The sound is great as my friends have complimented on it over Xbox Live.

I'd like it to be reasonably good. I have a $10 logitech desktop/stand mic but I'm constantly getting **** for having a low sound quality

It's considered the best attachable mic I believe. Flexible in that it can be moved around without issue. Sound quality wise, you won't be getting anything better.
The only other ones I've even seen people recommend are the Zalman, Labtech, and DX mini clip-on.

Scroll to the bottom of http://www.head-fi.org/t/534479/mad-lust-envys-headphone-gaming-guide-updated-11-12-12-sennheiser-hd650-added to read about them.

From what I've read, M-50's are probably one of the best overall headphones in the ~100 price range.

They should be a step up above the MDR-V6, but not a huge step as those are some pretty decent sub-$100 headphones. Consider something above $150 if you're looking for a real step up.

It seems like it's just a pre-order for now, while they're QCing the batch they have just received. They should be shipping out soon according to the blog post.

It's really a preferential decision at this point. The MDR V6's have an extremely flat FR for a headphone. When I got to liten to some, I'd say they weren't very "musical", but they were great for critical listening, etc. Other A-T HP's, like my ATH-Ad900, and the AD700 are very comfortable ,nad have great soundstage and "instrument separation" These were the biggest things I noticed when I first got mine in 2008-2009. By contrast, the ATH-M50s are characterized by better bass response than the typically lean FR of the AD700/900/etc.

I've only heard them once, but I liked the M50s, Much better than certain other brands' offerings.
