IBM 122 key connecting...
« on: Tue, 06 November 2012, 17:09:16 »
Hi there,
I have had the opportunity  to get a 122 keys IBM which I think should be a model M  ;D. It sounds clicky and feels (very) nice to type on. S/N is 1390890, UK manufactured and it's AZERTY (I am french).

Still, the connector is weird. It's a 5 DIN pretty like the one on the attached pic (pins form a 240° angle). I went to a connector store and the guy told me it won't be easy to adapt...

I already have the active Ziotec ps2 / USB adapter so I guess all I need (?) is a 5 DIN female / ps2 passive adapter.

Do I guess right ? Could this be what I'm looking for ? Further, would the Ziotec adapter make every of the 122 keys functioning ?

It's not quite as simple as getting the right adapter, since the protocol is slightly different to PS/2. But... http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=17458.0 :D

I built a soarer adapter for mine (Which is a model F: You can tell by the metal backplate) it had a 270degree din5, and it works wonderfully. I recommend making one or paying a member to build one for you.

They are actually really easy to make. Like all projects (For me) Case-work is by far the hardest part.

That looks like QWERTY board to me. You are lucky to get a complete set of the Command keys at the top.

The "Teensy" really is teensy in size and will easily fit inside that large space. Forget the odd cables and rig up an internal Teensy so that you have a straight USB standard connection.

"However, even though I was born in the Mesozoic, I do know what anyone who wants to reach out to young people should say: Billionaires took your money. They took your chance to buy a home. They took your chance at a good education. They stole your opportunities. Billionaires took the things you want in life. If you really want those things, you have to take them back.
That's the message. That's the whole message. Say that every day, not just to reach America's frustrated young white men, but people of every age, race, and gender.
Late-stage capitalism is a wealth-concentration engine, focused on vacuuming up every dollar and putting it in as few hands as possible. Republicans are helping that vacuum suck.
How does a tiny fraction of the population get away with this? They do it by dividing the other 99% of Americans against themselves."
