How to replace switched
« on: Wed, 07 November 2012, 12:02:58 »
I would like to change the switches on my keyboard, I have blue for the moment, and it's making to much noise for when my GF sleeps next to me ^^
I would like to put something that makes less noise.

The thing is that I have a keycool 87 with backlit, and I'm a bit afraid because it's new (4 month) and because I actualy don't know if it's possible/easy to do.

Can you guys help me with a guide or something like that.

thanks a lot!

Is it plate mount or have LEDs? if so it's going to be quite a bit harder

It's plate with led, so have to desolder all the led and switch. It's a lot of work. I think you would be better off try to trade it with someone for red, black, or browns version or another similar keyboard.

Or just buy a second keyboard.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Buy her earplugs and tell it's because you care about her too much to see her sleepy all day. Then get head and type away.

I like to keep it simple, I use one keyboard, I don't see the goal of having a second one (not as addicted as some of the person here ... I may become a bit more addicted in the futur ^^)

but the trade can be something I can try for sure! :)
