I'm saying I have to spend $2000 in total for shipping to everyone.

But also, technically, I'm in about $5000 worth of debt as paypal has taken an interest free loan (as in, we're(paypal) going to take this money to "protect ourselves in case of any "malfeasance" that comes from your community group buy, but we're not going to pay you for that money") out of my money, which has forced me to use credit cards and a short term loan (both of which cost me interest) to complete the order with SP.

If I could process credit/debit payments globally another way, I totally would invest in it at this point. OTOH, because I've gone through the hassles that paypal has put up, I'm confident that I can run my own internet business selling keyboard stuff like plates, cases, springs and whatnot, but also some nifty gadgety things and possibly distribution for curios, too. I'd call it Angry Angry Klaxons or something.

Now for the tough part I guess... I need to find away to forget about this for 3 months...

I think you should share the amount of money you put into the GB because of the paypal thing after everything is done and you got your money back and covered the loan you took.
I think it will only be fare if it's a lot of money that will all chip in and cover some of it if not everything after all the troubles you have been through

I think if everyone who placed an order donated another $15 to the GB, that would cover the entire $5000 that Paypal is withholding from TJ. I know that's not likely to happen though, especially for some people who placed very small orders.

Please tell me that Paypal is planning to give you the $5k once all of this goes through, and isn't planning to simply steal it from you...

Either way though, having to lose out on interest is a crying shame. Agree with previous posters that you should tell us how much you end up out of pocket when all is said and done so the community can make it right!

If they only hold it for 2-3 months waiting for the items to ship then it will only be interest for a couple months and shouldn't be too bad. We can all still help out with it once you know the numbers. I still don't understand why PayPal does some of the things it does.

you'd think they had never heard of a group buy before or something
but there are loads of forums all over the net doing exactly this every day, so i can't imagine how it would be news to paypal

seems like you're dedicated to seeing this through, and i'm glad, or i'd never get my keycaps. but i can't imagine why anyone would ever go out of pocket for strangers on the internet, personally.
