Just got the Filco Ninja
« on: Thu, 15 November 2012, 21:22:07 »
Absolutely love this keyboard. I really like my cmstorm also I think I prefer the shape of the filco buttons but both are excellent. Shift first day is a little squeaky so I gotta fix that or will it just go away?

The squeak might lessen over time, but it is simple to lubricate it, and there are several guides around here on how to do it and what to use.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

You can fix that quite easily, but it's weird... The last Filco Ninja I received had the same problem, on the backspace key... Are they not applying oil/grease/whatever they use on the stabilizers?

I heard they only lube spacebar, and only wasd keyboards lube all stabilized keys.

I've had to lube all my Costar boards. Comes with the territory. A $5 tube of Lithium grease goes a long way.

Also had to lube my ninja (just recently) as backspace was squeaky (I don't use it much due to colemak). While not yet had to lube my cm storm, just luck of the draw it seems. Anyway removing stabilizer key wasn't even hard, just fiddly.  Love the keyboard, although somehow the space bar is dead silent compared to my noppoo and cm storm which both seem to 'clatter' for lack of a better word.
