Hmm Ducky support here is not so good.

After finally getting a reply to my RMA (had to send a reminder email to get one!) they send me an address to ship it to in the US, but not WHO to ship it to!

Guess i'm supposed to make up a name to ship it to! maybe Ducky?

Now I got to wait FOREVER for a reply to that, and what I need to include. The keyboard obviously, but do I need to include the original boxm cables, etc? and will I get it back?

sigh, now i'm sacred if I sent it in, WILL I ACTUALLY get my keyboard back?

At this rate, I might get this fixed by this time NEXT year, and maybe more boards will Greens around....

Thanks for the update, dood! *sigh* maybe I'll just invest in some new soldering equipment *sigh*

I am actually thinking about maybe  just keeping it as it is..

maybe putting an 0-ring on the not clicking keys will make it feel better.

I  already miss the Greens after re-hooking up my Blacks!

Blacks feel too mushy now!

Hehe :P I dont think putting o-rings will help because even with o-rings the clicky actuation is still the main feel of the switch and you'll still feel the absence of the click and then a soft bottoming out :( Honestly, either just living with it or getting it fixed are the only real solutions. But there is no harm in trying everything :)

Stupid question:  Why not just order a handful of green switches and replace the few busted ones on your board?

I don't have soldering equipment atm and don't know if I want to void my warranty just yet.

I might, If I could solider!

Green switches are hard to come by as well.

Seeing as how my progress with Ducky is going, I don't think the breaking the warranty is deal breaker!

It like they don't care, they take forever to reply to any emails (IF THEY REPLY)

If Ducky finally gets back to me, I might take it for the team and report progress on the whole Ducky RMA process for others.

Yeah, it seems like Ducky has absolutely no intentions of standing behind their product. That's an absolute deal breaker with me. Especially since this seems to parallel the new releases. Probably 8 out of 10 times, that only happens because they know they're shipping junk and they can get away with it. (See also: Razer)

I would hardly call what they ship junk (that would be Razer as you correctly mentioned), but they should be upping their customer service presence overseas. I can only imagine it's even worse with Vortex as they have absolutely no web presence.

I agree, I think it's silly to call Ducky products junk just because the US customer service seems to be lacking, even if a few people are having some issues with this board.  I feel for you guys (truly, because I LOVE mine and wish everyone could enjoy it the same way), but personally, I'd just void the warranty and replace the switches myself.  Easy/cheap to get from 7bit over at DT, and it's a good opportunity to learn to solder.  You can get a soldering iron pretty cheap these days, and it's really not that hard to replace a few switches.  There are tons of videos showing how to do it here and elsewhere.  There are also some really good samaritans here that will do it for you, probably for free, if you send them your board and pay return shipping.

I wouldn't call Ducky Junk. Their Quality control is lacking as well as customer service.

Other then the defective keys, I love the board!

I can't solider at all, and I am not good at stuff like that. I get frustrated too fast with finky stuff like that.

So i'm stuck with waiting for Ducky to ACTUALLY respond to email or finding someone to fix it for me!

Or better yet finding something who is planning on taking a trip to HK and can get the board fixed directly with Ducky!

Lol! Blacks feel amazing too just not as much fun. You'll be reunited with your love soon :P I feel like my keyboard is starting to break in (actuation is starting to soften up a bit) and the whole thing just feels a lil' softer or my fingers are just getting used to it. Don't know if I prefer this but still do love this thing, that's for sure :P

It's not breaking in, your fingers are just getting HUGE from all the high-pressure actuations!  :D  Work's been insane for me lately, which means more time on this keyboard...18 hour days, but at least I'm enjoying typing all day?

I just noticed yesterday that when I'm typing very rapidly for longer periods, my space bar squeaks...anyone recommend how to deal with this?  I'd rather not lube unless I absolutely have to, because it leads to a dirty keyboard no matter how little you use.  But the squeak is really starting to piss me off!

Lube the stabilisers?

http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=34332.0

Yeah, like I said, that's an option, but I've seen some people say it goes away after a while on Duckys, and I'd rather not lube the cherry space bar stabilizer unless I have to because it attracts grime and it's inside of the case, so harder to clean if that ever happens.  At this rate though, the squeak is going to drive me nuts, so I'll probably end up lubing.

I have two Ducky Shine (both version 1), and neither squeaks.

Maybe make sure the keycaps are properly seated.  Maybe mash the key for a while.  It might go away by itself.

A quick update, well there is nothing to report!

the Ducky Guy got my KB 2 weeks ago, with no reply's to any of my emails with updates.

Maybe he decided to keep it?!

Oh well, just sent another email with a 'HIGH PRIORITY' tag and see if it gets answered this time.

Thanks for the update.  No news is not necessarily bad news - there isn't really any historical precedent for this.

Hope it works out soon :)

The GPL-205 did the trick immediately.  Tiny dab on each side of the stabilizer, and no more squeak.

Would you be kind enough to post pictures of where you applied the lube?

Sure.  Look at image 3 of 4 on this page:  http://www.elitekeyboards.com/products.php?sub=access,misc&pid=mechlube#

I put a tiny dab at each of the two arrows, on both sides.  Immediately removed the squeak.

I tried doing that with EK's lube and the lube just ran past the bar and straight down onto the plate behind it.

That's why I went with the GPL-205.  It's VERY viscous.  You couldn't make it run if you tried.  I bought it off Ebay in a pre-filled plastic syringe.  Was designed for SCUBA-gear use, but it's perfect for this sort of application.

Well, I finally got a reply, well 2 in the course of a day (WOW!) after I sorta complained about having no updates!

Looks like the switches are replaced and the KB is on its way back to me! WOOOO!

Good to hear! Sounds like they have some communication problems, but glad to hear it turned out good. Guessing they didn't want to say anything till they had it fixed - really hate that personally. But hopefully it's all fixed. :)

Hopefully!

Yes, it would of been nice to get an email once they got the KB in. Then another email saying it was fixed and ready to be shipped back. Then a last one with shipping info.

Thanks for the updates, dood! I am still annoyed about my one switch being all fudged up but now I don't know if I want to send it in for just one switch and have to deal with what you had to. How much did it cost to ship it to them? My messed up switch is the numpad no.6 and I don't know if it'll be worth the shipping costs.

It was about $20 for me, might be cheaper for you since i'm in Canada. It was shipped out to California, so depending on how much it would cost you to ship a KB there is your cost!

I just received my very first Cherry-based keyboard in the mail today -- a Ducky SE with the MX Green switches. I went for the greens because all my other keyboards are Model M's (buckling springs) and the greens seemed to be the stiffest. But really, as I type this -- people make it sound like pressing the keys require Hulk Smash level force, and they don't. I'm not disappointed in the slightest; the keys are nice and snappy, the sound is..... eh, different from buckling springs, a bit higher-pitched, a more techy sort of *tik*tik* sort of sound. Very nice to type on. And all the keys click. Really glad I picked it up, seems like it would be perfect for typing. But still surprised at the force required -- not that much at all. Makes me wonder if other Cherry switches would feel too light.

Anyway, great keyboard so far!

Good for you... Looking forward to get my hands on one of those. :-)
My not all key clicking is returning to its maker today.

I agree, from all the comments, I was expecting much stiffer keys. But it's not bad at all.

To be fair, the switches are nearly twice as stiff as reds and browns, and still noticeably stiffer than blues and even blacks.  I think the point of most of the comments is that for people used to typing on pretty much any other stock variety of MX switches, the greens are noticeably stiffer (in a good way).  Hope you guys enjoy your new boards!

I really love my QFR with Greens. An earlier post hit on that you wont enjoy going back to blues, and I'd have to agree. I was never really a fan of the blues anyway, they felt too wobbly to me. The heavier spring of the green remedies that for me and makes the switch feel much more solid and "worthy" of that satisfying click feel.

I'd like to replace the QFR caps, but man key caps are expensive.

Sigh....

I think the Ducky guy either lied about shipping my KB, or its gotten lost in the mail!

I keep emailing him back to ask if he shipped with tracking or not, but still NO reply! :(

Dood, I'm so sorry to hear about your terrible experience. Such bad luck :( :( :( Strangely, my numpad no.6 key fixed itself! It's so strange... maybe it got broken in or the lighter fluid I dabbed in kicked in few days late?

I hope your keyboard is returned to you soon!!! Such a great keyboard but your experienced is ruined bc of a few bad switches.

I kinda wish I kept it now. Even it was on the main keys.

I also wish the Ducky guy would quit ignoring my emails!

A small update.

the Ducky guy FINALLY got back to me, turns out he was out of Country.

Looks like he shipped it to a wrong address and USPS was holding it.

Said he would fix it with my correct address and get it sent out ASAP.

So now MORE and MORE waiting.. sigh..

Hopefully it comes NOW!

Hahaha I know  ;D but still I did buy this keyboard mainly for the lighting...and I do like it to show hahah it's pretty sweet.  But I get you, there are just too many darn good looking non-backlit keycaps that make me just not care about it so much loll

The case of this keyboard is the same as the Ducky Shine 2. There is a reason why this keyboard is the same money as Shine 2 with PBT keys and a rare switch.

You can make your Dhine 2 light up the exact same way. It's a little weird to think the Shine 2 has less when they give you so many lightening options to play with.

Edit: whoops, looks like I necro quoted.

okay final update...

IT CAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was begging to think my KB was lost!

According to shipping label it was shipped out on March 12.

So that's not bad for the 2nd attempt at shipping to me.

There is no sign of first label where it was shipping to the wrong address, I would be curious where, Ducky guy won't comment.

Could be he just shipped it late and didn't want to admit to it (no way to prove that), so i'll give him the benefit of the doubt that it was shipping wrong first of all.

All the keys seem to click now so thats good :)

Can't say it was worth it yet.

Need to do more typing and further testing.

Ducky should pay for stress relief if you RMA a KB!

Bottom Line, at the moment, Don't RMA your KB with Ducky, FIX IT YOURSELF!!

Am glad to have a fully clicking KB now though.
