Does Cherry G80-3000 have PCB mounted switches?

Does anyone out there have a Cherry G80-3000 keyboard?

Can u confirm that it has PCB mounted switches?

Can u confirm that I could open up the case and open the switches and Lube them to make them super buttery smoooooooooth without having to desolder the whole entire keyboard and then resolder everything back?

My painful hands thank u 4 ur help

All G80 except some rare model like 0777 are pcb mount. Yes it is easy to modify switch on pcb mount, just open the tops and do as you wish.

Yes, it does have PCB mount switches and you should be able to open them all up to lube them.

The thing is I dam near bought a couple of G80-3000s when they were giving them away free for $50.00  but when I read the review and it clearly showed that Cherry went waaaaaaaaaaaaay out of their way spending money to make the capslock key be incompatible to any other existing key on Earth (its even incompatible to their own previously incompatible capslock keys); I decided against getting one.

Cherry could have had my money.  I could have some Cherry keyboards right now.  Why do they shoot themselves in the foot?

Now I must calculate out if having a retarded capslock key is worth lifetime lube ability.   Hmmm....

Don't get a 3800, get a 3000 they are way nicer or an 1800. Or more specifically if you can, look for the 349* or 186* models as they have 6KRO/NKRO instead of the 2KRO found on most current production G80.

Thanx for mentioning the NKRO thing.  I didn't even look at that.  I "just asumed" it was NKRO.  Silly me.  If I type fast I can exceed 2kro.  2kro is junk.

3800 is also pcb mount, but its that slim profile model and most accounts that the build quality isn't so great. It was meant as cheap product for Asia market. The funny thing is though, that there was already better made and cheaper MX keyboard in China like PLU and Keycool.

The G80-3800 also have a weird Caps Lock stem placement.

I couldn't find any Cherry G80-3000 with red switches.  I have pretty well given up on it.

I need red switches, PS/2, easy to lube and not missing any vital keys.

Apparently it is impossible for the worldwide keyboard industry to produce a nonsabotaged keyboard.

You need to be looking for a G80-3494LYCUS. It's one of the only models Cherry made with reds stock. Keyboard company has some in stock, check it out. If you look around some you might be able to find one a bit cheaper from Asia though, or maybe used.

Its only $168.00!  Taking out the steel plate jacked up the price to the same as 3 Rosewills!

That keyboard is really huge with a lot of overhang.  Are you sure the switches are really PCB mounted?

Yes I am positive it's PCB mount. It is a bit pricey no doubt, but exactly what you are looking for. G80-3000 is very classic style in the case body, it was originally designed in mid 80's after all, and revised in 90's for winkey with not much change. It's still smaller than the predecessor 1000 series.

They are ABS but they are not PAD printed.  They are lasered.

If everyone lied to me and they really are PAD printed then I will know about it within 2 more weeks as the print rubs off.  And I will warn everyone.  I HATE pad printed keys.  Pad printing might be ok on the front of keycap where it almost never touches anything.  But pad printing on top of the key is totally unacceptable.  Many/all FILCO keyboards use pad printing (according to the interwebz) which is why I never bought a FILCO before.

For what it's worth, the lagends on my CMstorm QFR (it's infilled I believe, either that or some sort of direct-print method. It's not long-lasting by any means) started to wear off after about one day. I don't mind, though. The pad printing on my awful logitech RD lasted about 5 years (unfortunately). Pad printing can last some time, especially if it's coated with something else afterward (like the filco keys are). Lasering can also last a while, especially if it's done on PBT. Infilling depends on a number of factors.

I have used my Rosewill RK-9000RE lightly for 18 days and so far the legends look great.

But I can feel the legends sticking up above the surface of the keycap.  I know from experience that things that stick up get worn away.  Even if it is solid rock.

I assume these legends will last a year.  I probably won't use these keycaps that long.  I ordered some replacements from WASD.
