Free Clack, finished and winner announced!
« on: Sun, 16 December 2012, 07:50:46 »

So instead of auctioning a CC for GH I thought that I would just give one away, the auctions are always won by those that can afford to be really generous which is great but it doesn't allow those with less disposable income to obtain one. I am well aware that those who have an MX board will want to trade this and I am fine with that.

Rules!

1. You must have at least 100 posts.
2. You must name your favourite number and explain why it is your favourite.
3. The numbers 42, 4:20 and 13 will earn you instant disqualification, it can however be a number in any form i.e. fractions, natural numbers etc.... The more interesting the better, if you can provide a nice bit of mathematics with your number then you will stand a better chance.
4. I will cover shipping to anywhere in the world, this will be posted after Christmas to ensure that it gets through the system safely!
5. There is no requirement to own a Topre board and I will not try to make you sell it at cost in the future, it will be your CC so do with it whatever you want!
6. There is no restriction on those that already have CC caps although if this will be your first then I give you a bonus point.

This will end on Monday 23rd December at 15:00 GMT and I will announce the winner on the 24th just in time for Christmas :)

So what can you win?

A depth black Topre CC skull from the latest EK sale:

*Boob GIF's may or may not increase your chances.

Wow! This is extremely generous of you!

My favourite number is 1.618... or the Golden Ratio.

Frequently used in architecture, as well as being found in nature, it is the most magical number if there ever was one! Things that appear in this ratio just look subconsciously "right" to people. I like to use this ratio as much as I can in design, graphics, even Minecraft creations haha... :)

Alison Brie is very mad that jeroplane has never owned a Clack:

Nice giveaway!

My favorite number is 9. We have a amusementpark in Sweden called Liseberg, when I was young I played on those spinning wheels, I won starprize (highest prize) 3 of 3 times played that time when I was playing on number 9.

Since then it has been my lucky number, I hope that it will bring me any luck this time.

I'd try my luck.

#11

Pretty much my number in everything, and it conveniently comes out a lot in my life, it's the number in my phone, IC, basketball jersey, and a lot more, and when my father passed away in April, one of his old friends came and told us when he was in the army, my father was the 11th member, which makes me realize that I have a lot to do with the number #11.

But, if I do win, give it to someone else. lol

My favorite number is 8.

Number 6 is just 3 x 2 and 3 is an unlucky number for me.
Number 7 is 4 + 3...3 again :-(
Number 9 is 3 X 3....3 three times= :-( x 3
Number 8 is perfect because it's 4 x 2.

Wow I sound like Jim Carry in the Number 23.  Number 3 man....it's...it's EVERYWHERE!

I like the #23 (all that mystery illuminati stuff and many more reasons...). It's a fascinating number!  ;)

Curiosities of the number 23

* The physical biorhythm cycle is said to be 23 days. It takes 23 seconds for blood to circulate through the human body. The male and female each contribute 23 chromosomes during conception. A full turn of the DNA helix occurs every 23 angstroms. The number of joints in the human arm is 23. There are 23 vertebrae in the human body. Tantrists believe the male sex cycle is 23 days.
* Shakespeare was born on April 23. Shakespeare died on April 23. Two 23's equals 46 and, that's how old Shakespeare was when the KJV was published. Grab a King James Version of the Bible and turn to Psalm 46. Count 46 words and you arrive at the word 'shake'. Turn to the end of the chapter and count 46 words backwards and the word you end on is 'spear'.
* The Ancient Egyptians hailed the New Year on July 23 - the day Sirius rises behind the sun.
* The ideal orbit, Clarke's Orbit, for a satellite is 23,000 miles above the earth.
* The first prime number wherein both of the digits are prime and add up to another prime number is 23.
* The 23rd letter of the alphabet, W, has 3 points up and 2 points down.
* Two-thirds or, 2/3, is equal to .666.
* The first Morse code transmission is reported to have been "What hath god wrought?". A Biblical quote from Numbers 23:23.
* Alexander the Great was 23 when he cut the Gordian Knot and Caesar is reported to have been stabbed 23 times. The Knights Templar had 23 Grand Masters.
* The "Day the Music Died" was February 3 or, 2-3. This was of course the day Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper died.
* Devin Hester, whose jersey number is 23, becomes the first person to return the opening kickoff for a touchdown in a Super Bowl ( XLI ).

7 is my lucky number. For as long as I can remember, everything has been in 7's or at the very least, multiples of 7. Also, I had an extremely good run with "Lucky 7's" lottery tickets. I bought 7 and won, using the winnings only to buy more, ect.
Looking for CC's!

My favorite number is 12 (well, one of my favorite numbers)

The number twelve is intertwined with the history of the human race...

It is so common in commerce it has a special name: dozen.
Why?  It can be divided in halves, thirds, and quarters easily.  Need to tally more than five on one hand?  No problem, look at your palm and count the number of creases on your fingers.  Family units rarely get larger than that, so a dozen of something is usually enough for everyone.

Oh, and how many Fn keys are there?  That's right  :cool:

Another number with close ties to twelve (and human history) is sixty: the smallest number that is divisible by 1,2,3,4,5, and 6.  That's why we use it for time (along with 12) :)

That is some christmas Spirit!

7 became my prefered number because    I once realized that most of the time track 7 of any album tends to be my favourite.

As for the mathematic part, 7 is 3 times 2 plus 1, and that is something!

Edit: tapatalk didn't tell me 7 already got some love!

I was born on the 14th of December. It's double as lucky as the lucky 7. The last 2 digits of both my phone numbers are 14. If you multiply 14 by 2, you get my age. And Reaper removed the boob.gif that clearly had size 14 breasts.

I like 1, because of its properties. Many things are actually equal to 1. It has some interesting properties and can be used for all kinds of 'shinanigans'. Below is a brainteaser.

0.9999999 etc is equal to 1, and here is why. A line above a number (vinculum) is is a way to write a repeating decimal: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vinculum_%28symbol%29
Code: [Select]
Set x to be 0.99999...
      _
x = 0.9          Then, multiply both sides by 10:
         _
10*x = 9.9          Then, subtract x and its value from both sides:
             _     _
(10*x)-x = 9.9 - 0.9

9*x = 9          Then, divide both sides by 9:

x = 1

And this shows that x is equal to 1 and x was initially also set to be 0.99999... etc. Thus: 1 = 0.99999...

One can thus say I also like 0.999999... indefinitely.

Edit: Who said number theory wasn't ever going to be useful. :P Also, additional math joke:

I got .99 problems but any number ain't one...

My favorite number is 5341. There's not any math behind it, but instead, if you look at it using l33t sp34k it reads "seal". I used this as part of passwords that needed a number when I was younger because I thought it seemed cool since a password is suppose to seal away information.

Instead of trying to win you over with fancy math or interesting information, I will try to make you cry like a puppy to win with sympathy! I don't own any clacks right now. I had three before which I was only able to get because of click clack's dibs sale, all the other sales are way too frantic for me to ever be able to get something before they're sold out in the first few minutes.

My mom recently retired prematurely from her job because of depression, and I recently finished college so I don't have much money, I just finished my third week at my first job in four years. One thing that my mom was sad about was that she didn't really understand how to use computers and she sees my brother and I using them all the time to do lots of cool things. Basically all she knew how to do was send e-mails because that's something she had to do at work and that was through outlook only.

She had a second hand digital camera that one of my cousins gave to her a long time ago, but its really broken and keeps randomly turning itself off for no reason while you're trying to take pictures. She was kind of sad about this too because when she was trying to take pictures at my convocation (graduation) she was fighting against the camera and missed a lot of shots.

So recently I traded my click clacks here on geekhack to try to help her with these two things. I ended up trading all three of my clacks for an old tablet computer and an old digital camera. The tablet trade was a month or two ago, and I'm happy to say that now she's using it everyday for e-mail, looking up instructional pages/videos about how to do things she wants try on google and youtube (she was always impressed about how my brother and I would always find out how to do things we had no clue about using the internet), talking on skype and general internet browsing. I got the digital camera a week or two ago, and she'll be using it for the first time to take family pictures at Christmas.

So anyways, I'm super happy that I was able to trade my click clacks to make her happy because even though they're cool and I was happy to get them, in the end they're just plastic and there are more important things. At the same time, I'm also happy that I was able to make people who were interested in click clacks happy by trading old junk that they don't need for it (the tablet was an old HP Web OS one that isn't supported anymore and the camera was a Sony Cybershot that was sitting in someone's attic). People had been recommending I sell them for cash and then buy a brand new tablet/camera but I always prefer trading because it lets people get rid of things they don't use and get something they want for it.

Now I'm clackless, and it would be nice to have one again. I do have a Topre too, which I got in a trade for Magic cards which I didn't need anymore! :)

I was born on the 14th day of December, the last 2 numbers of my home and mobile number are 14 and it's double as lucky as 7 :p

First off, happy late birthday.  How was your's?  I filled up on churrascurra meats yesterday for an early birthday dinner.

Secondly, thank you for that bouncing birthday present :p

I like 1, because of its properties. Many things are actually equal to 1. It has some interesting properties and can be used for all kinds of 'shinanigans'. Below is a brainteaser.

0.9999999 etc is equal to 1, and here is why. A line above a number (vinculum) is is a way to write a repeating decimal: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vinculum_%28symbol%29
Code: [Select]
Set x to be 0.99999...
      _
x = 0.9          Then, multiply both sides by 10:
         _
10*x = 9.9          Then, subtract x and its value from both sides:
             _     _
(10*x)-x = 9.9 - 0.9

9*x = 9          Then, divide both sides by 9:

x = 1

That seems flawed to me.  Why is there still a variable when you state that x = .9 repeating?

That should essentially read:

x = .9

10*.9=9.9
9.9-.9=9.9-.9
9=9

That should essentially read:

x = .9
You didn't use 0.999 indefinitely. You are attempting to prove that 0.9 is equal to something

10*.9=9.9
You eliminated x here, thus also your possibilities to show that x is also equal to something else which is the point of this exercise. proving that 0.9 is equal to 0.9 is far more insignificant than showing that 0.999... is equal to 1.

9.9-.9=9.9-.9
9=9

Three errors in your math there. Just messing with your head until you figure out the actual reasoning behind it.

My birthday was ok.. my drinks for my birthday were a rather big let down due to people being so rude by saying they would attend and not attending.
Happy Birthday, to you too.

Hah, so I did that exact thing with my favorite number and .9 repeating is now silly and entertaining instead of boring.

I am fairly certain you still haven't understood the proof, as it can't be done with just any number.

Nono, that's why I'm amused by it now.  With the handful of other numbers I did, x remained the same.

Also:  Read as I'm stupid and forgot how to math.

Happy Birthday, to you too.

I know exactly how that feels.  I even had people say they'd come, then two days before tell me they forgot and planned on going to another party instead.

Awesome giveaway :)

My favorite number is 6 because that is the largest number you can get on a single 6 sided die, which generally means good luck and fortune.

No 4:20....

Anyway my favorite number(s) has always been 9-18 or 918.  You'll see it in my email and handle everywhere outside of GH.

I was born September18th and coincidentally they are multiples of 3 and 9.  It's also an easy birthday to remember because you just double the month to get the day.  Surprisingly, Toni Kukoc from 3 peat Bulls era also has the same birthday...and is left handed also!

I'm glad to see someone else is doing this, I thought about an identical approach a while ago with the writing portion being more open-ended as opposed to focused upon numbers.

I'll be sure to post something suitably ridiculous later in the week. ;)
