Soldering opinion -- Rosewill RK-9100

Hey folks,

Got an RK-9100 backlit keyboard and I was wondering how its internals look.  I couldn't get a great picture because I didn't want to void the warranty and it has a screw sealed, but I was able to get the following:



Looks OK to me, but I'm no expert.

Also, I found that the spacebar made clicking noises; is this normal with Cherry stabilizers?

When u press the key down once without releasing it, how many click noises does it make?

When u release the key once, how many click noises does it make?

There's one or two on the way down, depending on how quick I push it, and none on the release.  Although it's not consistent; there's sometimes more or less.

EDIT: I should mention it's a browns board...

You should consider a lube job.

Rosewills have Costar stabilizers as far as I know.  And at least my RK-9000's big keys make some clicking noises when I apply light pressure to them. I believe that it's normal.

RK9100 series are made by iRocks not Costar.

Yes, frequently. Remember that Costar is a DESCRIPTION of a stabilizer type and not a brand of stabilizer. Costar styled stabilizers are cheaper to manufacture than Cherry stabilizers. Costar doesn't actually make their own keycaps, so yes, it's not uncommon to find Costar style parts in other manufacturers.

The soldering work on this particular example is okay. I don't see any blatant spatter but the finish looks a bit uneven. Impossible to say what it's really like without opening the whole way and getting good macro shots of various areas.

It's a backlit keyboard, so cherry-style stabilizers.

And I wish I could've opened up the whole thing, but they put a seal on one of the screws.
