LZ-GH Ordering!!
« Reply #850 on: Tue, 12 February 2013, 19:55:00 »
i actually much prefer the LZ-S, and even the kmac 1.2 (dat red) to the 2. what is the deal with the "in the future" thing? afaik, the kmac 1.2/2 GB on kbdmania is done, and sherryton was planning on making them available, but his paypal is ****ed.

edit: sifo, your tracking should be working now btw. it just hadn't gotten into the system yet when i checked the first time. you should take unboxing photos/video, because I packed that thing awesomely.

Future when sherry has a way to accept money and sell the keyboards.

Been using a board with media keys the past 2 weeks and I have to say it is hard to live without when been spoiled with it.

So, is there any way to get the LZ GH to get media keys? Like fast next song, play pause etc.?

afaik, you should be able to set those up in the keymapping tool.

edit: assuming the controller didn't change when the pcb did? i don't know, either way, if the board is programmable, you can probably do it. worst case you can set them up with autohotkey.

If there is a firmware available for the board at shipping time I will load and test the board.  I won't be doing custom maps as Redline will be releasing a GUI for that.

I'd be amazed if there was no firmware ready.

Okey dokey pokey's...

As you should know you bought 2 LEDs, then the PCB changed and now it can hold 80 something.  Here is your opportunity to buy more LEDs and installation for them.

I need to know from each of the lucky owners (you know who you are) the following information:
What color LEDs you want and how many of each (0 to 90 total)

Options: red, yellow, orange/amber, green, blue, white, pink

These LEDs are not matched for brightness across colors.  They are not matched for brightness within a single color.  That said, I've gone through a few hundred in different colors and never noticed much variation in any of the single color groupings I assembled.

Once you know what quantity and what colors, you need to figure out where you want them!  For instance:
green WASD, blue arrows, pink F-row, red nav-group and on and on...  Just FYI - green/blue/pink/white are bright and similar in brightness, red/yellow/orange-amber are not as bright, and again similar in brightness to each other.

If you aren't getting this board assembled, I don't care where you want them since I'm not doing it for you :)

LEDs:
<$15 for 90 leds, different colors have different pricing.  If you're sweating a few bucks then just don't get LEDs.

Installation:
Full board: $15.00
partial board by arrangement

Once again, you can go with the 2 LEDs that you already purchased, just let me know your color choice whether it has changed or not!

HOW TO LET ME KNOW:  Think long and hard about your choice.  I don't want any PMs, and I will NOT be taking notes from this thread.  Don't call me, I'll call you.  It won't be before the 26th (of Feb).

Payment:  Will be direct to me, arrangement will be made privately.

How much to just buy LEDs from you if we are installing them ourselves? Or is it $15 to buy them, and $15 more for installation  ?

For just leds it's <$15  not $15, and yes LEDs and installation are separate costs as called out in the post.

How do your LEDs compare to the 3mm 7000-10000 MCD LEDs on ebay that are around 100-200 count for $5-12 shipped?

Maybe yours are tried and true for keyboards or there is some value I'm not aware of.

< means less than, which is a whole lot easier than specifying every possibility.  You'll note that I am being extremely flexible allowing any combination of colors to get to 90 (or less than 90, since I mentioned that too).  I already mentioned they cost differently depending on the color.  If you have a specific assortment of colors in mind when I get to your turn you can tell me what they are and I will give you the total cost... and it will be LESS than $15.

You should note that once LEDs are installed in the switch, those LEDs must be desoldered in order to be able to swap the switch stem.

For purple, I think these might work (edit - they are pretty expensive, but at least they don't emit any UV - see wavelength chart at the bottom of the link.  Also, if you are buying an LZ you can probably afford some fancy LEDs):

http://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/through-hole/5mm-violet-led-15-degree-viewing-angle-1000-mcd/296/1223/

Being 5mm, they would also need to be sanded down like the aquas.  Although, regarding  the aquas, the same site carries a 3mm version here: http://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/through-hole/aqua-3mm-led-18-degree-viewing-angle-4000-mcd/308/1240/ - it's just a bit more expensive per LED than the 5mm)

The only LEDs that don't need modification are 3mm flat top columnar (no flange).  These are few and far between.

If ya don't want to buy LEDs through me that's less work for me so go for it.

Apparently 1 seller on ebay has 505nm 3mm LEDs (same wavelength as the aqua on superleds)  1000 of them for ~$30

Those look more closer to green than aqua. I've bought some off ebay, and colors are not as accurate when you get red, green, pink, purple, or UV. Mouser was more accurate in terms of wavelength, but matching brightness specs is pretty useless.

Those LEDs were very close to green for me, but they showed up in pictures as aqua, I'd suggest that if you are trying to get a good teal color go for something in the 485 to 495nm wavelength.

What are the ideal LEDs for a mech keyboard?

Not too bright that it shows through the caps but enough to give some background accent lighting

I also looking for a nice green colour that would match black LZ-GH / toxic set

These are the LEDs on my korean-assembled KMAC.  Were these sanded?  I can't come up with any matches on Digikey.

yes except kingbrights are 2.9mm with out the flange and 3mm with it so they fit perfect
