[FS] WYSE keyboard w/ MX blacks
« on: Thu, 24 January 2013, 18:51:05 »
For sale is a yellowed WYSE keyboard with MX black switches.  I do not know if they're "vintage blacks," but the PCB is dated 1988, so it's a possibility.  The CHERRY logo on the switch housings is of the smaller variety.  There are enough threads on this topic that I'll ultimately leave that determination to the buyer, but I'm happy to answer any specific questions you may have.  At any rate, you'll need to desolder them, so I would suggest a cleaning / lubing while you're going through the trouble since the board was pretty filthy when I first picked it up.

As far as keycaps go, the numpad is shined up to the extent that the nub on the "5" key is completely missing.  There is still texture present on the letter keys with a smaller amount of shine.  Esc is shined heavily, as well as some function keys.  It's shiny and yellow, got it?

I was hoping to get this keyboard working at some point, but one of our fellow members who's deep in the WYSE game more or less told me it's a no-go, so I figured I'd let it go to someone who may have a use for it.  It's actually really well-built with plate-mounted switches and a tight-fitting case, and kind of a shame to use it for parts, but them's the breaks, I suppose.

Not really sure what's appropriate on the pricing, so how does $30 USD shipped to the continental 48 sound?  International for only a few dollars more! soldsoldsodsoldd

Probably a pretty decent candidate for retr0bright if you want to work that whitening magic.

As pictured, minus the hardcore white CC and Cherry doubleshot "R"

Closer, to see the extent of the yellowing.  "U" key isn't uniform and stands out a bit.  The hardcore white CC makes this look really bad, but the Cherry doubleshot is more of a standard "white"

Before some cleaning.

Some of the keycaps on a Filco in daylight.

Edit: I probably should have asked, but are the keycaps double shots? Just never seen the arrow keys not be yellow on ds wyse keys. Thanks

I stay busy with work and family these days, but I'm still around, lurking.
