CM Storm Quickfire TK (red) vs Rapid (red)?
« on: Fri, 15 February 2013, 05:01:28 »
I've seen a lot of praise for the QFR on here, but I think I'd like the tenkey-area of the TK. Are there any (noticeable) differences besides the tenkey-area and LEDs between the QFR and the TK I should be aware of?

One thing I noticed in the specs is that the QFR is about twice the weight of the TK, which seems a little odd to me.

Anyway, thanks for any input.

P.s. I kinda wanted to wait for CM's newer products (XT etc.) before making a choice, but I don't think I can constrain myself... :)

yeah the spec seem to be wrong on the website.. I have a TK with red switches and it 2.1 pounds on my USPS digital scale, not the 1.2 listed on the coolermaster site. I'm guessing that's just a typo no one has gotten around to fixing yet.

As for comparing the two, different OEMs but so far I really like my QFTK. I was torn between the same two keyboards as you listed and in the end I really wanted that backlight so the TK won out. Been hammering away at it for a few weeks now, so far so good. I mean clearly a few other companies make boards that are higher ranked by the board here but they also cost a lot more. Odd are worth it to those who buy them but I pretty much had the budget of $100 so I went with the QFTK.

Good to know. Perhaps you should post your finding in the CM section of the forum or PM Carter or Rajiv. I know a few people were concerned about that weight listed on their site.
My wife I a also push her button . But now she have her button push by a different men. So I buy a keyboard a mechanicale, she a reliable like a Fiat.

A quick follow-up for others wanting to buy the Quickfire TK:

The keyboard won't work with my main pc, which has an older mobo (Asus M2N-MX). It does work on my laptop and another pc, so the keyboard is fine. I've ordered upgrade parts for my main system (it was due for an upgrade anyway), but this is something to be aware of if you have an older mobo and are planning to purchase this.

Some more details for those interested:
I fiddled with the BIOS settings, and occasionally the keyboard would work in the BIOS itself, and it worked in Windows exactly one time, but I could not get it to work consistently. Other threads on the web regarding this and other Quickfire models discuss similar problems. Suggested causes include: outdated BIOS versions (try updating your BIOS), USB power issues (USB controller cutting the keyboard off due to excessive power consumption), the NKRO setting in Windows.
