Way smoother.  Typing on a Dolch board is the way cherry blues are meant to feel.

I saw a diagram of someone ghetto rigging it but I'm not wire-savvy.

They use PS/2 protocol, but phone jack plugs, so buy a phone jack splitter, pop it open, attach corresponding wires to a PS/2 plug inside (should be screw posts) and close it up. Or solder on a PS/2 cable.

How "destroyed" is it? 'cause as long as it's not cracked in half, it should be repairable (And probably even then).

But if it's PS2, and you know the pinout, it should be relatively easy to just solder on a PS2 cable or make an adapter.

Yes it is dead simple to either make a ps/2 to 4p4c cable, or just hard solder it depending if you never intend to use it with a PAC again... which in that case I also recommend dropping it into a standard 1800 casebody (especially a white one) because it looks nicer and less bulky.
I still wish the seller with the German ones would come down on price... they have been sitting on ebay for like a year or something now lol.

Would modding for PS/2 allow me to get the pointer working, too?  The board I ordered is from one of the early PAC 65's with the pointer in the upper right (above the numpad)...

And how about using it over USB, is that possible?  I'm pretty sure the motherboard in my computer does not have a PS/2 port.

The one I got was also a 65, but I simply ignored the trackpoint and dropped mine into a standard 1800 casebody so I can't advise on that. Yes you can use over usb with an active ps/2 to usb adapter.

Thanks for the info.  Depending on what I see once the board arrives, I might try a mod to get the trackpoint working over PS/2 and then USB.  Possibly impossible, but I won't know until I try (and given that I am just getting the keyboard, I do not need to worry about maintaining compatibility with a Dolch PAC system).
