I must say Realforce(in particular variable one) feels a tad better than HHKB(pro and pro2) from my experience, though I have only two Realforce 101(variable) and 106s(30g? 35g?). Unlike most of Topre lovers around here I like variable force definitely :)

Unfortunately I deeply love HHKB for its small footprint and layout and can't survive with hulking Realforce in this hard world :D

Well then I'll just replace it when it does decide to crap out. But I don't see myself ever willingly selling any HHKB. I love this thing way too much

5 years? That's a bit pessimistic. Maybe the actuation force will go up a bit because the rubber gets old.

This stuff is called Rubber Renue. Also you can lube the switches.

The point of the capacitive switch is that there's little friction or parts bumping together - the spring goes down enough to actuate (I STILL don't know exactly how this works, but it seems like it would be more long-lasting than say a complicated switch like Cherry blues, browns or clears.)

AFAIK, Topre switches are rated for something like 30M keypresses, whereas Cherries are rated at 50M. I haven't been keeping count though :-X

you are right, the switch itself (the spring) could live looooooooong, it's all about aging of domes.
