Poker (from iMAV's GB) and Backlighting
« on: Thu, 07 March 2013, 16:44:03 »
Can anyone tell me whether the LED's on the Poker that came from iMAV's group buy can be turned on and off if I add them. I notice that every switch has the holes in the PCB to install LEDs. I am not an LED guy but would like caps lock and also some way to tell if the function layer is on or off.

Thanks,
John

You would need to do some modification. WFD has done it, so might start there.

IIRC, there's only support (traces) for 7 LEDs on the PCB. I don't have mine (yet) so I can't tell you exactly which ones.

However, there are holes for LEDs on each and every switch on the PCB, so you can run wires to each of them if you want a fully backlit keyboard. You'll have to find a way to get power to them though... :)

This^ I can post some photos of the back of my PCB when my CNC Aluminum case gets here.

Also, what are the options with the DIP switch?

Thanks,
John

OK, yeah, I can see the traces, duh (me). Cap lock works as expected and the spacebar led lights up after pressing FN and spacebar, esentially toggling on the function layer.

Would like to see this, cause I want LEDs on my WASD keys! Are the wires running from the right lead of the  LEDs to the USB? Or do they get there power from another source?

The LEDs seem to work like so ...

Caps Lock, just as you would suspect.

The LED under the Spacebar, Right Shift and three bottom row keys on the right all light up when you press the FN key and then the spacebar, esentially toggling those four keys to act as arrow keys.

As stated, I am not an LED guy and just wanted to know what modes were active. I put an LED on the Cpas Lock and Spacebar switch.

Mine are wired to Esc Lock, but you could go directly to the USB or use a different led (Spacebar, rewire shift, alt, win, ctrl, etc.)

Haha Yeah I know you were only asking about the regular set up. This is why I didn't post initially, but I figured seeing the underside of my board might help with the regular keys too.

Used my SGNote2. I hope this is good enough :)

Edit - You can also see how to do the normal seven by looking at the Caps Lock in the photo.

The easiest way to turn off any additional hand wired would probably be to stick a small 2way switch inline on the positive. Should be easy enough to place under the pcb along the back somewhere would just need to cut a small hole for it.
For default, the Poker has LED on ~/esc, caps lock, Space, Rwin, menu, Rctrl, Rshift.

Thank you for the great photo!

With "piggybacking" off of other keys like this, is there any concern about having enough power? eg. Can I power an entire keyboard worth of LEDs off of the ESC key like that?

Oh btw, did you dremel out the two case ridges to allow room for the wires? I probably should have also mentioned that before.

no, but i didn't notice any problems, all the screws went in fine and everything is level. i used really thin wires i found around from kits.

not sure though how the wires will do in the cnc pure case i got coming in.... we shall see

Haha I'm waiting on the same case. Worse case scenario you can dremel it down a bit.
I'll post a photo of what WFD did to my plastic case ridges whenever the CNC arrives.
