What are these called and where can I get more of them?
« on: Mon, 18 March 2013, 13:32:21 »
Hello gentlemen,

So I noticed the plate mounted switches on my Poker have a kind of spacebar stabilizer I have never seen before.  I ordered another plate from The_Beast for another Poker/GH60 I plan on building later this year. However, I dont know what these are called and they dont look like any of the parts sold on WASD.  The little black pieces that connect to the spacebar's far "cherry ports".  I am really struggling to articulate myself regarding these little black bastards.

Here is an album of the pieces I am talking about:

Any help would be appreciated. I know you guys will have all the answers.

Also keep it Wu-Tang.

They are called stabilizers. The ones you have are made by Cherry and are PCB mounted. Cherry makes Plate mounted versions too. The ones WASD Keyboards sell are Costar and are plate mounted.

Your plate can use either type.

If you are installing a plate on your Poker, you're going to have to desolder all the switches and LEDs anyway, so changing your stabilizers won't factor into that.

However, people obviously have a preference between Cherry and Costar. I've only tried Cherry PCB mounted stabilizers, so I bought a batch of Costar stabilizers to try out on my DIY Poker build.

Someone with much more experience than me will have to speak to the benefits of Cherry vs. Costar, but I have heard people complain that the Costar space bar stabilizer feels "mushy".

Cherry stabilizers feel very mushy to me. I prefer the costars on my filco a lot better than cherrys on my poker.
Looking for CC's!

Isn't it the other way round? The Cherry stabilizers feel mushy to me, which is why I prefer Costar.

I feel the same way about Cherry stabs.

You shouldn't need and new stabilizers with the plate you bought. The PCB mount  cherries that came with the poker will work just fine
