build quality of cherry vs ducky?
« on: Fri, 22 March 2013, 14:32:22 »
i'd like to purchase either a Ducky DK9087G2 PRO, or a cherry g80-3000, both brand new. is there a noticeable difference in build quality between ducky and cherry keyboards?
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. PCB vs Plate mount would be the main difference in the feel of either of these.

I don't really follow Ducky but their build quality seems to have greatly improved since they started producing boards a few years ago.

Yes. Ducky have a much higher over all build quality. If you want Cherry best to buy vintage. The older ones are made much better than they do now. The best thing Cherry had going was the doubleshots and dyesubs which they ceased making on production years ago now.
If you just want to try a PCB mount board I would go with the GH60, Poker/Pure, Plum 96 or Neo Zelia instead of a current production G80.

The Ducky is plate mounted, a quick google image search brings up many pictures.
