Why do we love keyboards so much?
« on: Mon, 25 March 2013, 11:47:42 »
Hey keyboard lovers,

I'll try to prove something(or understand) here.(with my semi-****ty english:) but i'm sure you'll get what i mean. I remember myself in high school...We had this large computer lab with full of IBM terminals and Model M keyboards..When i clicked that button for the first time in my life, i was in love with it..that click noise..then i tried some other keyboards, that distinct click noise made me very happy..I also love to watch people when they type..in 1991, i bought myself an IBM PC. But it didn't come with Model M keyboard and i remember myself being so upset. It was something else with a weird click noise(like a ping)...

I really don't care about the mouse i use...nor my speakers...My wife, who is a writer, spends all day in front of computer and she also doesn't care about keyboard, like many other people...So, whats wrong with us?
Might it be some kind of Autism or OCD? :) Hey, i'm serious..i'm sure we have something in common here cause this is not very "normal". I really want to hear your stories, how did you meet with your first click clack sound?

I'm using computers for 25 years now..I was never a good programmer(wish i was..) But i'm a good at graphics design, so thats what i do for living..

Men like us love our tools. Pens, keyboards, mice, etc. These are usually the tools of our trade so we care about them. I think its a guy thing.

I don't think there is anything particularly abnormal about it. There are people on forums across the internet learning how to make better cookies, fly kites, or blacksmithing. There are people who collect stamps, pocket knives, pipes, and just about anything else you can think of. Surely keyboards are no stranger a thing to collect than those. Keyboards aren't my one and only hobby. In fact, I am attracted to learning about almost anything made to the highest quality standards.

There are many every day objects that I use, and when my eyes are opened to the fact that the things I use don't have to be cheap crap, I usually want to learn about what I'm missing. When I learn about what I'm missing, I discover more and more about whatever I'm researching, and eventually a collection starts to build itself. I think it is a very natural part of human nature.

I think it's wrong to make the conclusion that "there's something wrong with us". Why must there be something wrong with us, yet a musician who is obsessed with his instrument has nothing wrong with him?

It's a hobby. Some people are in to sky diving, others are into race cars, some people collect coins or stamps or rocks or comic books or whatever.

We love keyboards. We love typing. We're just as normal as the next guy with any hobby.

Because I have multiple personalities: Sometimes I like it rough, sometimes I like it gentle.

My fingers are my mistress and she must have her toys.

Tools of the trade argument wins for me. It's like wielding a good hammer; it gives you joy in the doldrums of work.

I use a computer a lot so I invest in things that make my overall computer experience better. Plus it makes me more productive. If I have take a break in the middle of writing an email because my finger hurt from a well hard rubber dome keyboard, I'm losing time.

time = money, and money = *****es. So not having is nice keyboard means I'm losing *****es! And we can't have that

You may see a $1000 monitor in a non-professional setting a waste, but dammit, I want every picture I look at to look amazing good even if they don't have too

OCD perspective, keyboard is an amazing tool to repeat things over and over :)
