and you call yourself buckling springs warrior huh!!! lol have no clue dude, might be BS, might be alps, might be rubber dome.... need to ask the seller if its clicky, but even rubber domes make some sort of click... and if seller have no clue of mech boards he will tell you YES it clicks!!!!   see the XT industrial link, seller have knowledge and he says its not clicky = rubber dome :)

Saw this when it was first posted on ebay. I believe it's the same as webwit'- so-called "frankenboard". It'd be good to swap the guts out of a real XT into it.

At a guess, it's probably either acer-like spring over membrane or capacitive foam/foil.

I've been doing a ton of IBM research lately, so just thought I'd share.

Blazemk, that "IBM 6247440 Keyboard for 5086 Processor" keyboard is almost certainly "prototopre". The keyboards for the IBM 5085 GPU (1983) were capacitive BS, and the keyboard for the 5086 (1986, just before the RS/6000 series) is prototopre. Also, looking at the key legends in the picture, it's the same as both the "prototopre" 'boards I've seen.

Do I call myself a "buckling spring warrior" ? No. But I have done my homework, especially as far as these IBM CAD workstation keyboards go.

Also: another teaser. There's right now a very interesting IBM keyboard on eBay that you missed. I have it, and will be taking better pictures of, and will be documenting.

Very tempted to try the IBM Cupped Rubber, anyone have more information on these? This thread that I've posted in is all I could find.

Never mind. I looked at the pictures, and I don't believe it to be capacitive. It seems the pit in the middle of the rubber is what presses the two matrix sheets together to make contact.

It's a "prototopre" with the blue and green dye-subbing.


Works with a soarer converter IIRC.


edit: HaaTa has spoken these are newer than the capacitive variety.

should speak IBM RT protocol and work with a soarer.

These are the newer versions of the prototopre keyboards. The fun legends are for graphics / CAD workstation use
