Almost all the commercial O-rings from places like McMaster-Carr or these http://www.ebay.com/itm/200380989022?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 are always much harder grades.

Personally, I think that the softer the better, and dental bands (for braces) are pretty nice. My daughter had braces, and her leftovers came in very handy. Something like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Clear-1-8-6-5-Oz-Orthodontic-Elastic-for-Braces-Dental-Rubber-Bands-/310604161429?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4851736195 might work, but maybe somebody else could verify the size.

I always just get these from Amazon:

They feel exactly the same (to me) as WASD's 50A rings, and are about half the price.

I found an assortment pack from a $1 store that had a few in 16 different sizes. Some hardware stores should have them, though depending on the quantity they carry, they might charge up to 50cents for 1.

My feeling is that the orthodontic bands are thinner and softer than any of the commercial rings, that is why I like them. They have less effect than anything else.
