Rit Dye Experiment pt. 2
« on: Wed, 17 April 2013, 22:16:24 »
I threw the scientific method to the wind for this one. I figure the process is basic enough. I chose Tangerine Orange for this run... I think it turned out well. What do you think?

Top cap is my reference cap. Middle row is everyone's favorite, GH. Bottom row is a ;) emoticon, a skull, and a m (for meeba!).

Looks like a ghost scared the colour out of your caps! :p

They look pretty cool. If your refine the process, I'm sure you can get some pretty amazing results!

Actually, the glue trick worked a lot better this time. The dye didn't take as well as I'd like... but if it's like the last batch I made, the dye will appear a bit bolder by tomorrow.

Here's batch #2 from tonight... The wine color is a lot easier to deal with than tangerine.

Top is reference, middle is M, bottom-left is a skull thing, and the remaining three on the bottom were intended to be beer mugs. :D

Bottom left looks awesome! It looks like a scream mask, or some kind of wailing spectre.

Those were blank CCs.

Ok, they were just some crappy keys I used to testing. I think they were ALPS.

I've managed to melt several Alps keycaps with both chemicals and heat, they're definitely not as robust as the PBT caps.

The tangerines look uneven, appart from the letters. The more saturated the color, the better it sticks.

Photos of the latest batch, meebs? I know one color wasn't working all too well, but didn't another take better?

The caps were still a bit wet when I took those pictures. I had them drying off on that paper towel. The color is reasonably consistent across the set.

Check PMs in a couple of minutes. :D
