Ducky DK9008G2 Pro PBT?

Hey guys.
I'm about to order a Leopold Fc700R and I have already started to look for a 2nd board. This time with a num.
I stumbled upon this.

Black was my second choice if I didn't go brown on the FC700R.

Yeah I just preordered one last night - got MX Brown switches and the dark grey / blue colour combination, along with the leather wrist rest.

Considering that:
-> it's Ducky
-> it's thick PBT
-> it's dye sub
-> the low price

I reckon it's an amazing buy.

Not sure what everyone's obsession with TLK boards is, I use the numpad heaps, entering any kind of numbers with the top row of keys is just not right.

I'll be comparing it to my Cherry G80 with browns once it arrives. Super excited!!

Are there plans on releasing a compact Ducky with PBT? (without a numpad)

We call keyboards without number pads Ten Key-less or TKL, compact keyboads are keyboards with just the main island(or the size of the main island), which is 60% of the board (no function keys, arrow keys, numberpad, etc.)

I've been waiting for these to come out, I'm excited for when they arrive in the US. I hope the version with Greens comes out promptly, I think that's the next keyboard I'm going to buy.

I don't think they have backlights, and those aren't his photos its Ducky's.

More probably being put up as I post this. $119 for Blacks and $124 for Blues is a GREAT price for something with keycaps like that. I'm really impressed with Ducky.

Well mid June is when they're expecting to ship from PC Caae Gear here in Australia so yeh I'd imagine it would be similar over there. Also they seem to be priced very similarly for the US buyers so it would seem to be an insane bargain regardless of where you live lol.

 - no plans for a TKL boare that I can see anywhere

You guys are lucky anyway - you get the full set of choices from mechanicalkeyboards.com, we only get red / black / blue / brown, no green or clear (and I was keen to try clears too)

In regards to the keycaps, PC Case Gear have started selling Ducky ABS caps for $25 -35 per 108? Key set (i.e. Incl the home / calc / my comp / email keys).

Not sure if that's a good thing that at least there are Ducky keycaps available or a bad thing that the ABS ones are that kinda price... That would indicate that if they were to release these thick dyesubbed PBTs, they'd probably be ~$45 minimum. Depending on the price of the keycaps, might be able to justify just buying a second board instead

Is there any way to check whether the "MX White" is going to be actually white or turn out to be "MX Clear"?  Also can't quite find any good videos with MX White.  I have seen a comparison where MX White is between MX Blue and MX Green and is sort of on par with MX Black in terms of force required.  But still, it's hard to tell if MX White is about as stiff as (new) Black switches or is more difficult overall due to the tactile bump... or perhaps the bump makes it easier, resulting in some downward inertia after the bump.

Mechanicalkeyboards will correct the name if it's Clears instead of Whites.  Like with the Pures that were Whites, they weren't sure if it was Whites or Clears and told people they would change the name if they were Clears.

I see.  I thought there'd be some exact switch specification for these coming directly from Ducky already--not sure why the guesswork.  Is Adding to Registry effectively preordering on MechanicalKeyboards?  I have a feeling if I wait until the release date, they'll be all sold out before I reload the page (same goes for MX Browns).

I'm almost positive they're Clears. Ducky frequently refers to Clears as White because that's the Chinese name for them. Also, when they announced that these keyboards were coming out they specifically advertised "White(Clear)" switches. I don't think Ducky has ever used White (Milk) switches in any of their keyboards.

I wish I could find the post now but I seem to remember a topic in a Chinese forum that the White MX switch was brought back from the dead because Vortex/KBT put in a large order for them.  So it is very likely the Ducky are MX Clears.

edit: just realized the Ducky 78 has MX Whites.  Maybe they would share?

Lubed Clears with a lighter spring are heaven.  I still use Blacks for gaming (though I really want a switch between a Red and a Black, a little closer to Blacks), but lubed, lighter Clears are my general use board and I don't see myself ever going back.

The tactile bump in Browns is just so small as to not be noticeable.  In Clears, the heavier spring muffles it a little, but it's still more noticeable.  With a lighter spring, you have a much more noticeable bump, but, IMO (and one that many disagree with), the lighter you get a Clear past ~65g, the less pleasant it is for me to use.  Even with a Teflon lube (though admittedly not one of the awesome Krytox ones), my RK-9000 with Clears at 62g and 65g feels a little rough because of the size of the bump.  Maybe with a good lube that will go away.

And yeah, I think you're right that certain batches may be worse.  It could also be some factories are dirtier or some springs are more broken in.

I would love to find something with greens in the future. But such is life being interested in keyboards and being australian.

I have found some less than awesome Clears, but most of them were used, so I can't speak to new ones.  I wouldn't say they're more of a workout for typing than Blacks since both are heavier than Browns, Reds, and Blues.

... where did you get that from?

The spare red set of WASD keycaps included are translucent, so yes that would allow for backlighting, but the stock grey keycaps don't look very translucent to me...

Can't find any pictures of any backlighting, nor any mention of it on either PCCG or mechanicalkeyboards.com.

The model listed on the ducky channel http://www.duckychannel.com.tw/en/DK9008_G2Pro.html shows WASD backlighting but doesn't specify if it's actually the same model that's being shipped, as it makes no mention of the thick PBT keycaps...

I've never noticed and scratchyness with my browns but I've bought all my boards secondhand so I can't really give a proper insight I guess.

Hope they release the clears / greens etc in Australia too, but I'd want to try clears on a cheaper board first before committing to another one of these with clears...

There are photos of the PBT board with backlight:





They have purple backlight, as stated.  Under WASD and some other "lock" keys.  Doesn't look like there are LEDs under arrow keys, unless they are not represented in the photos.

Not at the moment   I would be ALL OVER THAT.  But I have to say these skinny bezel full-sized keyboards are quite small anyway (all of them, like the Rosewills, the Filcos, the Duckies, etc.)  Surprisingly tiny--just 3" wider than the TKL.

Considering Ducky has only just recently ventured into TKL territory... these boards and all other Ducky limited editions so far (except YOTD) have been full size. I doubt these will have a TKL edition.

Yeh as I said in my post, the WASD keys *if* you use the red WASD keycap set.

I'm not really interested in having red keycaps on a grey / blue keyboard (it really doesn't suit the look of it imo), and from what I can see, it doesn't look like the stock grey WASD keys have translucent legends..?

I'd say if you're looking for a full-size keyboard, I'd definitely get this. For the price and what it comes with (Thick Dyesub PBT's, double-sided PCB, USB NKRO, etc.), you really can't go wrong. I'm a huge fan of Ducky keyboards, and I think that their quality and build is just as good as any others like Filco, if not better.

Just my 2 cents.
