Can anyone ID this universal TKL Plate?
« on: Sat, 01 June 2013, 18:52:39 »
I got this plate off the classifieds a few weeks back and it thought it was WFD's plate that he sold last year.  i soldered all my switches in to find out that its slightly too thick (16 ga) and that they needed to be modified.  the holes for the stabs are slightly too small so i figured screw it, i'll just go with cherry.  i get half way through desoldering all the switches and realize that the cutouts aren't for plate mount cherry stabs and costar only.  not really my best moment  :p i cant find any info on this plate.  anyone know its origin?

im actually on my way out to get a dremel bit and a micrometer to get it within costar tolerances right now but curiosity is getting the best of me.

Interesting plate. Perhaps those special plates that Beast was talking about...? Let me find the discussion.

Looks like the R1 phantom plates but with a filco cutout. Odd.

I made 3 of them for alixinhzai at the same time as I did my poker plates and the ANSI150 Phantom plates that danwang sold

They're meant for a Filco, they may fit other keyboards, but I'm not sure

It's 16 gauge stainless, which is .0625" thick

Costar requires .060" +/-.002" if I remember correctly

What else do you need to know? I just got the file and cut them, didn't really ask too many questions since I didn't know a lot about plates at the time.

Ya you guys figured it out already. Only a few were made, and I think profosist also have a few of these too. He said there were also problems wit fitment of the stabilizers, not with just the thickness, but the positions of them were slightly off and that caused problems. You might have to dremel off more than you'd think. It has compatibility with Filco only, and nothing else.

Other than that, I don't know much more since I was not the one that designed it. I wouldn't be able to tell you how exact all the positions are.

I dont have the caps on but i did dremel out enough to get the stabilizers to open up .303".  I tested it with a switch and a cap.  as far as the placement goes, i had this board setup with caps and everything looked pretty straight but the stabilized keys were binding.  thats why i tore it back down.  I actually posted in your GB thread because i legit thought this was one of your plates haha.  the plate thickness seems to be a common problem on almost all of them.

i'll post when i have everything soldered up.

Yea, alixinhzai said everything was fine except for the plate thickness, which we both knew about before cutting them

"Inox" is street talk (metal workers et. al.) for stainless steel.
