Limited Edition Cherry Keyboard - Possibly for GB/Sale?
« on: Wed, 26 June 2013, 22:06:01 »
http://deskthority.net/keyboards-f2/opinions-pre-orders-new-limited-edition-cherry-keyboard-t6036.html

So Halverson linked me this earlier. Looks like Cherry might potentially make this keyboard if there's enough interest for it.

- G80-3494LYCUS-2 variant
- Doubleshot Cherry ABS
- Comes in black body or light grey
- ANSI 104 layout
- MX Reds
- Some cute logos
- Price is around $214.35 to $229.66

Not quite sure how to gauge interest or anything. Seems to be a couple pages on DT and that's it. Thought it was interesting though. Anyone else think so?

Don't think that's an option. 104 ANSI only according to the article.

I prefer blacks myself....but if they are cherry doubleshots....oh my. Rag in cherry form?? Or red alert cherry on a grey body? That hotness! Who cares what switch, or size, or layout! Just get involved!

I have a 3494. It's a nice keyboard if you like G80. One of very few post 90's model you can find easily that has better than 2KRO, the other most easy to get being the 1865.

this board is just meh at best. i dislike the MX Inside logo. plastic case for 250 price tag. 104 ANSI for a red board? wtf.

i think it is cool that Cherry can still make doubleshots though.  they should start making and selling caps.

Cherry dosen't make doubleshots anymore. They will have to buy them from GMK since they have all the tooling now. I agree about the MX inside for sure. It looks tacky at best. I think most people feel the same about that aspect, hopefully they will listen and not put it on there.

I don't like it at all. Have to see the gray one before making my mind up. If it's red on gray forget it.

They would have more success with their standard cherry font doubleshot in white on black caps, removing the tacky ... oh so tacky  "cute logos", oh and make it tenkeyless, that way it can go cheaper.. right

Looks like it was deisgned in conjunction with Asus. Someone check so see that there aren't vents on the back.

The MOQ of 4000 seems high. If you were to run a groupbuy with GMK for RoB doubleshots (since people would probably harvest the key caps off it), you'd probably reach their MOQ quicker. It would even include keys for those who want ISO layout. This supposed limited edition board is stricly ANSI.

A 3494 with stickers doesn't make it limited edition to me. If Cherry were to do something unique like ... purple stems to indicate ergo-clears, like Ivan mentioned in DT another version of the 5000, or something along those lines to show some effort in making it limited, then I might bite. 3494 looks so bland ... I'd rather get a 1800.

It was just some idea that was shot around in DT, where a member asked what it would take to produce the ergo-clear at Cherry.

http://deskthority.net/keyboards-f2/definitive-answer-mx-clear-t4012.html

The MOQ to make them is quite high, in the hundreds of thousands iirc

If they offer it in blues, I will probably find some way to buy a 5 pack.
Yeah, yeah, Cherry started with linears. Don't care. To my ears, the click of the MX Blue is the definitive sound of Cherry and always will be.

did I miss something? What colour will their cherry mx stems be? I hate the idea of spending so much to get a cherry red or black.

Stems will be the red or black stem color. The link eyesmiles posted was just an idea on how to make a board limited edition.

for the kind of money they want for it, the least Cherry Corp could do would be to give us some nice rare stems.

greens on the numeric keypad
whites on the modifiers
clears on the alphas
greys on the function row
super black on escape (Since we don't need to press escape a lot anyway)

Now that's more like it.

You guys. Odds are it's pcb mounted. Cherry knows we love modding keyboards. So they give us lame reds, so we can tweak the board to hell!
MX inside? How to remove that logo without damaging the case! This is not a keyboard, it's an expensive adventure!
