compact keyboard + colemak
« on: Mon, 22 July 2013, 06:03:46 »
Dear Geekhack community,

I want to buy a compact keyboard and change the letters to colemak layout.
I was thinking about a  FC660M or a Poker 2.
Except for the messed up hotkey labels, is there any other problem doing this?
what are your thoughts on this? is it a bad idea?

Thank you!

FYI: WASD Keyboards recently unveiled their V2... a TKL that comes with a controller that supports colemak natively.

Don't the keys have different profiles?

Blank keys work with any layout.

WASDv2 should be tenkeyless, w/ HW support for Colemak and custom keycaps (and standard physical layout, so you could easily replace full set).

My another recommendation is TypeMatrix 2030. Sure, it isn't mechanical, but still very good, quieter and thinner than any mechanical keyboard (maybe except some Cherry G84), and with HW Colemak support. My favorite keyboard for traveling. You can get a Colemak skin for it.

Or you could go with a custom keyboard like ErgoDox or GH60.
