Grabbed one even though it was a little bit more expensive than last year. Thanks for the heads up!

The one last year came in a medium flat rate box shipped USPS. It was a few pounds.

It quoted me $14 shipping (Virginia, USA)

Priority Mail or First Class? (I guess it's not much difference in the US, although Priority Mail can sometimes arrive in one day and First Class takes several)

Is there a chance to get any nice novelty keys that you would normally have to buy from a vendor like keypop?

Yah, it's probably just the fun to sort through. However, I can find fun for $40 in a different way without collecting crap. I would probably buy at like $15 + shipping, but not this. It's not worth it.

I am in the same boat.  $35+$15 in shipping for the novelty of it is too rich for me.

Trust me, you won't get close a full set and you'll just have random bags of keycaps hanging around.

I turned a profit last time I got one, but I was surely an outlier.

Not worth it for me unless someone(s) nearby wanted to split shipping for a pair or someone wanted me to sort out a bag for them, take pics, and send  the "good caps"1 to them.

1  Good caps being the ones they want from the pics.

Last time I don't think anyone actually got a complete set of keycaps - hence all the WTS/WTB/WTT threads in Classifieds for people trying to complete a set.

It was ~1000 last time, so only the price went up. Figures.

I found the post from the last crap bag sale in December 2012: http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=38378.0

Guess who posted it ;)

Price then was $25 for the bag, and shipping to Australia was $50.50, so the bag price has increased, but shipping has decreased.  It actually works out about $11 cheaper this time around.

Gonna be a lot of R4 and DSA Retro ****.
7bit asked SP for any R4 leftovers... yes there are some in the picture but I would expect little R4 in these bags.

There's always a chance.

Almost anything could be in there.

Last time someone got the one and only unique KeyPop Smile! prototype keycap!
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Last time there was a lot of unusable crap. With CCnG, Klaxon, Raindrop, DSA Retro, R4, Sanctuary, ErgoDox caps, and some of the other group buys there may be a good majority of nice keys for people to start trading in hopes of completing some full set.

Last time there was a lot of DS white on black keys, random modifiers and larger PoS keys that would not fit a standard keyboard.

But yes, there is the potential for a smattering of halfway useful keys this time :)
