Very rare Model F at a great price, hohohoho
« on: Sat, 24 August 2013, 19:02:09 »
Oh ho ho! Here’s a great keyboard! It can’t be adapted for Soarer due to the terminal serial connection, it’s ultra heavy (even heavier than F-122), it sucks power like nobody’s business, it takes up a huge amount of space, it lacks a numpad, it has an outrageous format even by Model F standards, it hasn’t been tested and is sold as-is with no warranty, it’s used and doesn’t have anything good for collectors such as a box…

And the seller wants $110! (Shipping calculator says $28 to my US proxy, guys on the East Coast will probably pay much more.)

Considering the fact that a certain type of crystal is now selling at $1985, $110 is incredibly cheap!

My opinion: I’ll offer Recycled goods $15 shipped for the keycaps alone and nothing else and they’ll probably reject it.

BTW this has been discussed in the past

I am amazed some people have the thick skin to ask tons of money just because something is a model F. It ain't made of gold. It can't be used.

btw as of this moment of posting, they're offering a 10% discount! grab it now while stocks last! (they have 5, goodness me, the thick skin of selling a piece of crap like that for $99 unshipped!)

even better, an awesome discount of another 20%! Now if that was a Model F AT, I'm sure all 5 would go in a flash.

the keyboard for model C1 is the "data entry" layout and lacks the tenkey. The other models do not. It also has a solenoid in there to make the keypresses even louder. Sadly, the cases are prone to cracking and damage.

If you can get them cheap (and if you wait, you can get them cheap) it's a good parts unit for future model F projects. I got mine 'cause it came with the cool data entry keycaps (that sadly don't work well at all in Dvorak layout. Or QWERTY, come to think of it) and the manual.

Even the controller is integrated, so you can't just replace it easily like on an AT or 122.

the only thing I have left that I must buy is the model F you guys come up with!

btw dorkvader, did you guys ever consider as part of your model F revival project, ways to make the keyboard quieter so that it reaches a larger market and is usable in situations where you don't have your own office?
